Re: Problems Getting Installed Linux to Boot / Run on HP-ProBook-455
From looking here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-ProBook-455-G2-Notebook-Review.141740.0.html ... I get the impression that it has two memory slots but comes with only one filled. Adding RAM is usually as easy as shutting the laptop down, opening a hatch on the bottom, and popping it in. Look up ...

Re: how to clean disk space
Make sure that you are cleaning up in the partition that actually needs cleaning. If there is space in one partition, another can still get overly full.

Re: Problems Getting Installed Linux to Boot / Run on HP-ProBook-455
The best possible speed tweaks for that laptop, if possible, would probably be:
- adding more RAM. 4GB is pretty painful these days
- switching out the HDD for an SSD.
Just FYI, the Edge version is aimed at very new hardware.

Edit: OP was a spambot and has been removed.
To be honest I've never heard of anyone doing that, but that may be on me. Is it a thing?

Re: Why is dual-boot not recommended by many?
The reason is that Windows updates have a tendency to mess things up in such a way that they may make it impossible to boot into Mint.

Re: Not Permitted To Update
that seams to mean that I'm not allowed to update packages any more. You are allowed. But there is nowhere to download them from, and that is a very different thing. No one is making updates for your OS anymore, and the repositories have been closed down. So there simply aren't any updates available.

Re: Mint for Tablet`s
Ubuntu Touch, which is made for touchscreen devices like tablets. It is, but there needs to be a specific version made for every model of tablet or phone, so the chance that any random tablet is supported is small and I don't think this one is one of the few. Sorry but I don't think Ubuntu Touch is...

Re: Linux Mint 19 Tara
It is our intention to bring him up to date with 21.3 but if he cant get into the present o/s and makes a clean install won't he lose all of his personal stuff (and no, he has not made a backup, but will in future) Bring a bootable USB stick with an up-to-date version of Mint when you visit, and an...

Re: Distro Selection and Understanding.
After telling him about some of the different distros he asked why so many. Simple: because they can. People fork distros, or start new ones, because it's possible and because they have an itch to scratch. It helps a lot if you realise that most distros are simply what the developer(s) wanted to us...
