Re: APT 1.0 released

Mint's script resides in /usr/local/bin while Debian's apt binary is in /usr/bin. Since /usr/local/bin usually comes first in the $PATH, when you simply run "apt" in the terminal, Mint's script will be executed. Drifting a little off point (for my question anyway) but that statemen...

Re: APT 1.0 released

I had been using apt upgrade as a safe way to update everything except the kernel (as kernel updates sometimes upset VBox). Now I am finding the function has changed (Qiana) and the kernel gets updated as it would with dist-upgrade pre- APT 1.0. Changing the name of a well-known command is not that ...

Re: Switching desktop managers problem

I have no idea what Qiana is. I am seeing the same message you posted as an attachment, but my "Untrusted Application Launcher" only has a Cancel button. Also after I Cancel, because there is no other choice, when I try again the exact same message pops up. So I can never start the applic...

A little break from all of the square icon sets. Potzblitz7 has been evolving them for some time and the 1.4 series looks even better.

Re: Switching desktop managers problem

Hi eldiener. Just wondering if you are using Qiana. I installed Xfce ISO and am seeing something similar (no extra environments) as well as the message described below. Never seen with previous versions and it is only occasional. Pressing "Cancel" and retrying it works without issue. Does ...

Re: Include inxi 1.9.17 instead of outdated inxi 1.8.4

Agree 100% with the points made by Pilosopong Tasyo as it would be best handled by the updating software, and did not mean to belittle the point made by karlchen because it does have merit. As Karl pointed out the Ubuntu version is also outdated so wouldn't someone have to just keep updating the LM ...

Yeah - what he said. Updates to inxi are rather frequent and that way you get them from the horse's mouth.

Thanks. I think the one with a cork-board wall hanging instead of Bliss would be good for my new Qiana Xfce

Re: Forum Suggestion: "liking" individual posts

Seems like some of the people who make decissions here are way behind the curve. That sounds very offensive. I think the people who make decisions (notice I spell that word a little differently) are intelligent, dedicated and sacrifice much time to make this whole Mint system including the forum wo...

Re: Forum Suggestion: "liking" individual posts

Other forums I've been on (e.g. uberent.forums.com) have a feature where you can click to 'like' individual posts. It's really great; provides simple feedback while letting someone new easily see what information is popular (and likely correct or particularly helpful). It's a feature I sorely miss ...

Re: Quicktome 7.6.9 Plug-in Updating

Great, I find a question that is exactly my same issue and NOBODY has answered it. But seeing that it's almost a year old, it probably doesn't really matter much anyway. Are you having trouble playing QuickTime? I guess that would be the real issue. For me (testing trailers), using the Mplayer 7.6....

Re: Is swappiness even an issue anymore?

That's a good question Alley Oop . Although with 8G of ram you may not be using swap much - if at all. I have 3.5 G of ram (32bit) and find swap is used often (using GIMP,VBox and browser) so I set it at 10. Some instructions become obsolete in time as kernel changes can make them so. Not sure if th...

Re: thicker window edges for easier gripping?

Hi a.t > I use Enlightenment and like to change things up a bit sometimes for variety by turning off window borders/title-bar so had to find the standard x-tricks. The ones I mostly use are: Alt r-click = window contextual menu Alt m-click = resize Alt l-click = move Ctrl/Alt down-arrow = move windo...

Re: thicker window edges for easier gripping?

I can't confirm in MATE because I don't use it, but most WMs will allow a window resize without the use of a border handle. Press/hold the Alt key and while cursor is anywhere in the window, press/hold the middle mouse button and drag to resize. See if it works for you.

Re: Brasero won't make a DVD movie..?

If you're running Cinnamon or Mate don't worry about the extra KDE libraries being installed. They won't do any harm, they are just needed to run K3B. it's install is something over 80Mb in Ksupport files, - but K3b does work better with blank disk's than Brasero does. Well put. Installed on XFCE a...
