Re: Update Manager: Kernel updates - security updates or new features only?

Hi Foster, If your machine is running well with the kernel series that you already have, I would stick with it. For example, I have 18.3 and have stayed with the 4.4 kernel series for my HP EliteBook. I believe the latest update was 4.4.131 in the 4.4 series. When I did a reinstall of Mint onto a De...

Re: Blind installation for AIO PC

Try running a live Mint 18.3 and see if that recognizes the video output of the HDMI so you can attached the old TV. If 18.3 does recognize HDMI, install 18.3. Then do an in-place upgrade to 19.

Re: LibreOffice Presentation Box/Frame Dimensions

Thanks. No it is not set to 'fit page'. The setting is 'original size' which must mean the page size specified in the program. I have a feeling that the problem might having something to do with the printer driver. I've been using a generic one because the Canon driver specified for this printer si...

Re: LibreOffice Presentation Box/Frame Dimensions

Check to see if in the printer's properties that a setting called 'fit to page' or something like that isn't active. That might be the issue.

Yes, Linux can be daunting at first. I was a Windows guy for decades. When I came across Linux, mainly Ubuntu, Mint, and Lite, I was perplexed, especially with Ubuntu Unity. But finding this forum was the best thing for me. I first did a few installs. First was with the default. Then I delved into t...

Re: just want to backup my changes

First of all, welcome to the forums! If you're using a USB flash drive that doesn't have persistence set up on it, then you won't be able to save your setup. Any installed apps, changes to desktop, etc. won't be saved. You basically have 3 options: Create a live USB with persistence Install Mint ont...

[SOLVED] No Intel Graphics Driver with Mint 19

Hello all, Eventually, looking to do a fresh install to go from 18.3 to 19. I can run a live USB of 19 but I notice that the graphics driver is set as modesetting instead of intel. May I ask why you would want to install an operating system on an all-in-one that has a broken monitor? Seems like a waste of time.

Re: Questions before starting with Linux

... The thing is I do not think I have to go for such a light system. I already installed Linux Mint on a much older (Windows XP) laptop and it worked. So I will test other environments proposed here. Please don't think that just because Xfce or MATE is "lighter" than Cinnamon, that you'll be missi...
