Re: Removing File System Bookmark MATE ??
I've looked. . . . everywhere............. there wouldn't be any use of gksudo he wouldn't have a clue what I'm on about, he's a beginner, that's why I'm trying to 'hide' the icon in the 'bookmarks' but they can't be drag n dropped and ' File System' doesn't even come up when I open the text file.

Removing File System Bookmark MATE ??
Howdy Folks, Just saved a laptop from windows Vista for an elderly gent and customising it a bit font size wise as his eyes are not so good and adding some tweaks and shortcuts for him. One thing I would like to do if possible but have not succeeded in finding the answer to, is 'hiding' the File Sys...

Re: Anyone good on phone bootloaders??
I know the difference between a network and a bootloader lock, maybe I didn't get that across, that's why I mentioned the boot logos and splash screens etc, my question was, IS it possible to unlock a bootloader or not when the phone itself reports "Bootloader unlock allowed: No" What I am...

Anyone good on phone bootloaders??
Howdy folks, Long story short, bought a Sony Xperia x with a view to flashing it with sailfish OS, instructions on Jolla's site said to buy a 'network unlocked' phone, which I did. This apparently has to do with custom versions of software that can be baked into 'locked' phones (logos/splash screen ...

Re: Hello. I'm FrustratedNoob.
Hello and welcome aboard, you sound like you'll get the hang of things, all good advice so far and not much to add except keep doing what you're doing, using it. So long as you have your backup of files/date on a separate drive there's not much to worry about if it all goes pear shaped - one of the ...

Re: Sounds ominous for HP printer owners . . . . . . .
What we really need is some kind of information clearing house for an ethical (or as near as possible) printer manufacturer. I also own an HP printer, and will be extremely upset if they pull that sort of nonsense with me. This is DEFINITELY a good argument against using ANY proprietary software &q...

Sounds ominous for HP printer owners . . . . . . .
Makes me glad I own a Cannon ! I used to like HP's too . . . . . . . . . . . not if that's there attitude though, sorry if this is old news to some, just came up in my facebook feed and thought I'd share as there seems to be a lot of HP recommendations in printer talk for Linux . . . . . . . Edit: t...

Re: Linux Mint 18.1
I suspect you'll get far better replies than mine (be more surprised if you don't lol) I installed 18.1 on a couple of old laptops at home and had the same thing, and tbh I reinstalled with 17.3 as I didn't have the time or inclination to troubleshoot it, but, in threads since I think it has often c...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system
Can I load Mint onto a fresh SSD on one computer and then run that same SSD on installed on another computer. I've done this but only when I've been swapping between identical laptops, I think the term is 'hot swapping' (?) could be wrong, maybe someone else will chip in whether it's do-able or not...

Re: Is Linux Mint the right choice for me?
I find it difficult to understand why people still come here stating that they don't know anything about programming and they don't know how to code blah blah blah, where does this come from? what decade ? I've been using Linux for about 6 years or more, and before I got here I didn't know a thing a...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system
BIOS security settings are another thing worth looking at, they might just need a tweak or adjustment, some MB's and chipsets have their own quirks so it seems, Secure boot? Disable it. UEFI BIOS ? I don't know what else to suggest, except take note of what you change so you un-change it if need be!...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system
Well from what you previously wrote it spins up, goes through the mint logo and dots then fails, so the hardware's reading the disc ok or so it seems and then exiting ? Or getting stuck ? Could you post a screen tomorrow of what you're getting, it might help, take a pic with a phone or camera of wha...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system
OK well there's nowhere to enter commands then from the live session, I think the key must be in that error message but googling round brings all sorts up for either message, like these examples: You need change your bios from IDE to ACHI. The thing that solved this problem for me was having the Opt...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system
Hi Dave - can I put in something like 'c:/format' into the command line that's running on the laptop I'm trying to load Mint onto So let me get this right, it goes through the boot process to try to get to a live desktop off the disc/CD but fails with that message - then you get a GRUB prompt : ?? ...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system
I've never fitted an SSD only regulard HDD's but I've always formatted them before using them, I'm just wondering if it's actually being 'seen' but if you can't boot to a desktop on the live disc then you'd have to hook it up to another machine and format it, It's bizarre and largely inconvenient yo...

Re: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system
Just a thought - sitting here pondering over a cuppa and an asprin - I wonder if this has something to do with the new disc having to be formatted as IDE / SATA and the like expressions that I don't understand, or maybe I'm on brain overload having read so much stuff on these pages and the net! Did...
