Re: Lock screen

What edition of Linux Mint are you using? With the main edition using Cinnamon desktop, you can get a lockscreen from the menu above shutdown and logout, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+L

Re: Anyone tried Gnome3 lately ?

Perhaps. There is the differentiation between the GNOME3 base of libraries and applications (and desktops build from that); and the actual desktop environment provided under the GNOME brand. But as they say life is too short to care about trivial details like this. :D

Re: Anyone tried Gnome3 lately ?

Regarding popular usage of the term "gnome3", I think it should refer to gnome-shell desktop, as it is the "defining technology of the GNOME3 user experience". When you use the term "GNOME3", without further explanation, the default desktop you are using is should be gn...

Re: Is it possibe to install Win 7 to Virtulabox on Mint 32

You can't install 64 bit applications on a 32 bit system. You need to use a 64 bit version of Mint run Windows 7 64 bit or use a 32 bit version of Windows 7. If you have legal COA you can grab a windows 7 32 bit iso for the Dell site here: True for applications, but as the information in my first p...

Re: Is it possibe to install Win 7 to Virtulabox on Mint 32

http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html#intro-64bitguests VirtualBox supports 64-bit guest operating systems, even on 32-bit host operating systems,[11] provided that the following conditions are met: You need a 64-bit processor with hardware virtualization support (see the section called “Hardwa...

Re: No flash on web browser.

xorg.conf is loading the "vesa" driver by default, but for whatever reason it fails and the system loads the nvidia driver instead. I think if you change Driver "vesa" to Driver "nvidia" in xorg.conf, then that FAILED error will no longer appear.

Re: What happened to Modprobe?

Modules end with .ko.gz in Arch Linux so I'm assuming it will be the same for Manjaro

Code: Select all

 find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name \*.ko.gz | less

2) will my partition get deleted (will I lose or damage anything) if I click on "unmount" inside the gparted program? No, essentially unmount means the partition is no longer available to the system to read or write. For instance when you plug in a USB key drive, it will be "mounted&...

Yes, you comment out a line by putting a "#" before it. Looks like the nvidia drivers are in use now. are you still having issues with flash? In xorg.conf, you can replace Driver "vesa" with Driver "nvidia", but it looks like it's loading nvidia anyway according to inxi...

Re: Quick quide to HDMI audio

Have you tried going to Sound Settings while the HDMI is plugged in, and selecting HDMI as your sound output?
It does not switch automatically for me, I have to go to Sound Settings each time to select the proper output.

Re: No flash on web browser.

The problem is a bug with the current nvidia-173 package that has package dependencies that don't yet exist. The solution is to install nvidia-173 from the quantal-proposed repository. To try this, open sources.list from terminal, gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list Add the line -> deb http://archive...

Re: No flash on web browser.

That was my mistake. I should have typed "about:plugins", without the space. But yes, that is the information I requested. Seems flash is installed properly. What video card and drivers are you using?

Type "inxi -Gx" in terminal and paste the output here please.

Re: No flash on web browser.

Open Firefox and type "about: plugins" in the address bar. Do you see a plugin for Shockwave Flash, if so report the version; if not, make sure mint-flashplugin is installed from the Package Manager.
