Re: newbie question for Open Office & other uninstalls

To uninstall something you installed manually, depends on that particular package. Everyone is different.

To install use: System > Administration > Synaptic. Everything installed using Synaptic, can also be easily removed using same.

Re: Flash upgrade

The easiest way would just to download and install the package I made. It will download Flash 10 and install it correctly. It does not work for me. I mean, it does something (download, install, etc.), but FF still sees only my old Flash 9. By doing it manually, it will cause many problems. You migh...

Re: Flash upgrade

Yes that is a beta that has been removed from the adobe servers so it won't work. I don't understand. Does this mean that if, through Synaptic, I install the latest (and currently only) flashplugin-nonfree that it will install nothing? Or is it going to install a broken flash plugin? *If* everythin...

Re: Flash upgrade

Just got home to verify all of this, and discovered two things: 1. I'm totally wrong. Synaptic says that the latest version of Flash in the repos is 10.0.b218. 2. I just tried to upgrade to that version, and I have ... nothing. Firefox does not see any flash plugin. Completely removed it, re-install...

Re: Flash upgrade

The only way to prevent this is by Clem being able to maintain his own Mint package repositories. Do pre-installed packages depend on repos? I thought pre-installed can only live on the CD.iso. Am I wrong? Linux Mint comes with flash 10, which is the latest version. I was almost certain that my Min...

Re: group name is same as username

1. Create a user using the graphical tool: System > Administration > Users and Groups. I think it is called 'user-admin'. 2. In that tool, on the Advanced tab, you must explicitly define a Main group "users" that he belongs in. 3. Log out. Log in as that user. 4. Now do your 'ls -lA ~'. No...

[SOLVED] Flash upgrade

Apologies to bring up an old problem. From doing a few searches on this forum, it seems to me that everyone is having the same problems with flash as me: it does not work. Further it appears to me as if most people solve it the same way as I did: uninstall the outdated Ubuntu supported one and insta...

Re: group name is same as username

So am I correct in that if I create an additional user, using the graphical tool included in Mint (main edition), and I explicitly assign the group "users" to this new user, I am not doing anything wrong? If yes (nothing wrong), then I would say there is a bug in Mint/Ubuntu (don't know wh...

Re: group name is same as username

The user and group are the same by default My question was/is: why is this? I'm just curious. :?: Those root owned files seem odd - how about the first user? I don't have anything owned by root in my home except a log created "under sudo" Is this in the main edition? If I create a new use...

Re: FireFox Not Running Properly. Any Help?

Shut down Firefox. Make sure it is not running by executing 'pkill -9 firefox'. Rename your ~/.mozilla directory - effectively back it up and delete it. Start up Firefox, and see if problem(s) persists. If this resolves your problem(s), then you will need to extract your bookmarks, passwords, and wh...

[SOLVED] group name is same as username

Hi. Not sure where to start, and this seems as good of a place as any. :) I installed Mint with only one account. I noticed that the groupname of my account is the same as the username. I have seen this in other distros as well, and was wondering what is up with that? Here is where I am going with t...
