Re: Python on Linux Mint 12 Lisa.
Right, so I downloaded the same zip and had a look into what was wrong. It is missing a Mono library, which you can add to your system by installing the mono-complete package. Steps I took: 1. Open Software Manager, search for mono-complete, click on it, click Install. Then wait a bit (may take few ...

Re: Main is not known on line 3
Sure, fix that also. Run the following command: sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list Then remove the following line highlighted in red , because as you can see it is also already covered by the parts marked in blue : deb http ://mirror.umd.edu/linuxmint/packages/ maya main upstream import backport deb ht...

Re: Main is not known on line 3
To fix this, please open a terminal and run the following command: sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-maya.list Delete the last line, the one that only has the text "main" on it. Then save & close the file by pressing Ctrl+X. Then run: sudo apt-get update And you should ...

Re: Python on Linux Mint 12 Lisa.
Hi, the Raptor website details a bit how to get it working on Ubuntu: http://raptor.martincarlisle.com/ (scroll down to the section "Other Operating Systems"). That should work for Linux Mint also, though it may require some trial and error. Mono (the open source implementation of .NET tha...

Re: ia32 libs problem
Your sources.list configuration seems fine. Seems like either it can't contact the server, or the files are not found on the server. Zooming in on the first few errors, these: Err http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main libssl1.0.0 amd64 1.0.1-4ubuntu5 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu...

Re: Mint 12 vs. Mint 13
Supported means you get updates for security problems and for serious bugs found in the applications you have installed from the repository. It also means the repository from which you install additional applications remains available. So you can safely use the operating system till April 2017, and ...

Re: Terminal vs Console, what's the difference?
AFAIK, colloquially we use the terms console and terminal interchangeable. Not sure if there historically is a difference; I think both meant the physical device with which to operate a computer. Why do you have three terminal applications installed (you actually have more, also getty which provides...

Re: Mint Installer SSD Detection
discard depends on TRIM support, which could be detected automatically. (See my SSD optimize tips http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 03#p461796.) I think the challenge is the Ubiquity installer that is being used is not very flexible or easy to adjust for such things.

Have you installed all available updates? You may want to upgrade your kernel also. To do so, either enable level 4 and 5 updates in the Update Manager > Edit > Preferences menu or run:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Was it a typo that you spelled it ia32 libs? The name of the package is ia32-libs. So: sudo apt-get install ia32-libs If the error is persistent, please share the exact error here and also include the output of the following command: inxi -r (You can copy output from the terminal through its Edit me...

Re: Broke my computer with wrong command! :'(
Ouch. To get to your files, open a terminal or do Alt+F2 and run: gksudo nautilus That should open your file browser as root, allowing you to access the files. Once you have reinstalled and want to copy the files back, you may have to change ownership of the files to your account first. You can do s...

Re: Mint 12 vs. Mint 13
5 year support? Linux Mint 12 is supported till April next year. Linux Mint 13 till April 2017. Other than that I figure the important differences are the versions of the applications; Linux Mint 13 will have newer versions of kernel and applications, which won't be available by default on Linux Min...

Re: SSD Installation (and also, how's NTFS support?)
I've a post about optimizing tips for SSDs: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=79503#p461796. As for swap, you need swap if you have little memory or if you want to be able to use hibernate (suspend to disk). From 4 GiB RAM up I wouldn't create a swap partition, unless you do heavy...

Re: need a good search tool
Catfish has just been updated. Not available in repositories yet, but you can download and install easily on Linux Mint 13. It uses locate for finding files on disk fast, and zeitgeist for including recently used documents. See here: http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2012/08/catfish-search-tool-updated-wit...
