Re: Level 4-5 to Level 3 Progression in Update Manager!!

The level of an update depends solely on what part of the operating system it affects. So level 4-5 updates always remain at that level. For some background on why for example your kernel is not by default updated (as it is level 4-5), and how that does/does not affect your security, see http://for...

Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

I have been running all of the fixes proposed so far in virtual machines and thought I would report that the "1.4-UP3-noopt" had froze during an upgrade in Synaptic Package Manager though it had passed the LO freeze test. Pat Update; Was worried that I would have make some fixes to updates for this ...

Re: Wireless stop and restart (suspend issue)

FYI- Have been using Linux for only about 5 hours now. I noticed there are a lot of suspend/hibernate issues with linux. I had issues with this as well. I found the following entry in my suspend.log: "Having NetworkManager put all interaces to sleep...Failed." The workaround I am currently using fo...

I have an issue related to the virtual terminals. Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

Excellent!!! esteban1uy!! The insert table caused it to fail as you desribed and disabling tooltips worked. LO is the only thing that caused me a problem. The PPA change I avoided because of the problem with loosing themes and just don't have enough ram for 64 bit. So it is a good temporary fix here...

Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

Have been using this since it came out without a solid freeze but not using LO either . In the doghouse now because wifey had FF going and inserted flash drive, opened a .docx, scrolled to the bottom, and everything froze except the mouse pointer. The frozen GKrellM did not show anything unusual and...

Re: Getting my firewall to work.

Just curious to know if you have tried any services that probe your system such as ShieldsUP . I find the firewall can be complicated and would want to know that it is a problem before messing with it. Thanks for the link. I passed all the tests. It didn't know I wasn't running Windose because it k...

Re: Default packages

Is there a way to find out which packages come by default with the system? I've been trying to find the list, but Google didn't return much results. Before you add anything on a fresh install you could open Synaptic Package Manager and select "Installed". Wouldn't that be what you are looking for? ...

Re: Close Window (X)

Unfortunatly I think cinnamion is my issue and until I have a simple fix...this simple person will just use gnome...I think. Heck thats why I liked windows. It didn't take a lot of thought process to get where one needed to get. I am a retired air traffic control person...not too dense, but if I ha...

I have gone to...system tools..system settings...hardware....power. In power I set it to (Don't suspend). I thought that would stop the system from darkening the monitor when I walked away. Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

Hi all I installed LM13 Cinnamon 32 from DVD after release. Soon had the "freeze" and GKrellM indicated that soffice.bin was holding CPU @ full throttle. I was able to open LO writer from Quickstarter and activity returned to normal. At Tools>Options>Java I let the Java version get detected and regi...
