Re: Does MInt have big demand on battery?
Installing TLP made a big difference for me, over an hour more of usage time compared to Win10.

Re: Why should I switch to Linux?
I use Mint as primary and Windows as either dual boot or under Virtualbox (the latter on most computers). Keep your files in Linux, use for browsing, media or anything Linux is capable of then boot Windows when you need a unique app (I use fileshare to my Linux file repository as a NAS that is repli...

Re: VirtualBox can't see USB
I had this issue too, adding userid to groups fixed it. Am surprised this hasn't been fixed in VB install scripts as it wasn't an issue in the past.

Re: Need a new printer, what to go with?
^Nice. I only print a page or 2 every month or 2 so that is overkill but nice to know there are cheap toner options out there. Thanks.

Re: Need a new printer, what to go with?
^I don't print very often, actually scan a lot but sometimes must be able to print - about once a month or two. Might consider a laser but may not be worth the $. Laser does sound like the way to go otherwise. A friend pointed me to cheap inkjet cartridges for Epson and others so may consider Espon ...

Need a new printer, what to go with?
I've had HP's and they've had constant problems with paper feed. Epson is great but if a color ink goes out you can't print just B&W, it wants all cartridges working. Is this the case with all models? Have tried my sister's Canon on Linux and it seemed OK and she likes it. My requirements.. - De...

Re: Difference between mate and cinnamon ?
One odd thing about Cinnamon is that you can't drag a link to file/folder to the panel/taskbar like you can with Mate. It annoys me enough that I stick with Mate. And Cinnamon can be a bit sluggish depending on hardware.

Re: System shutsdown instead of go to sleep
I'm having this issue too on Yoga 700 Mint 18.1. The 'put computer to sleep' after X minutes really does a shutdown. If I do a manual 'suspend', it resumes just fine.

Re: Boot Mint 18.1 and Windows 10 on different drives
Grub didn't find your Windows partition or it wouldn't boot after selecting Windows from grub?

Re: Boot Mint 18.1 and Windows 10 on different drives
Boot into Linux and do..
sudo update-grub
It will hopefully find your Windows partition. And then when you boot Linux, hold Shift key and grub menu should come up where you can select Windows if you want.

Re: Cinnamon: Dragging files/folders to Panel as a link
Bummer. So a feature request to add to panel by just dragging. Mate does this easily. Seems intuitively obvious thing to do. Windows does it too.

Re: Cinnamon: Dragging files/folders to Panel as a link
The destination would be the Panel (aka Task Bar), not another folder. Can't drag to the Panel.

Cinnamon: Dragging files/folders to Panel as a link
Have used Mate for years and try Cinnamon once in a while but haven't made the jump yet. One thing I miss from Mate is ability to simply drag a file or folder to the Panel and it creates a link. Am surprised Cinnamon can't do this for supposedly the more advanced Desktop. So it's a feature request b...

Re: Finally jumped completely off the Windows ship
Main reason why I'm still leaving Windows intact is the possibility of selling it and buying a new one. Not easy to sell a PC for a reasonable price without a legit Windows in it. That's just the way it is. I just bought a new Windows 10 laptop where it is difficult to replace internal drive, so im...

Re: Finally jumped completely off the Windows ship
A few tips. You can use your old Windows license in Virtualbox. If you don't have Windows key but still can boot to drive, you can get the key with one of these tools. http://www.digitalcitizen.life/how-recover-your-lost-windows-7-or-windows-8-product-key Then install a fresh Windows copy in Virtual...

Re: Linux predictions for 2017
On Linux breaking 3% market share, are they including Chromebooks? According to Netmarketshare.com, Linux is at around 2.3% lately. I think it's measured by web hits. Given "Other" is at 0%, would suspect they include Chromebooks. https://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-shar...

Re: Desktop Manager designed for touchscreens
Either way touch screens are here to stay and pretty much all future laptops/hybrids will have them. Mint Windows Managers (at least one) may as well make the most of it. I didn't like idea for laptops either but am using touchscreen with Mint way more than I expected as is (especially when in Chrom...
