Re: Won't boot with my new graphics card

Looks like I have sorted the problem out. I have turned off 'assign IRQ in the BIOS' and that seems to have worked. Thanks for all your input guys.

Re: Won't boot with my new graphics card

I didn't want to do this but I am going to put Windows XP on a spare drive that I have and see if the graphics card works then. If I am successful in getting the card to work under Windows, I will take it back to the shop for a swap out. Thanks for all your help guys with this problem. The box does ...

Re: Won't boot with my new graphics card

I have just had a thought about the connector ! The card as both VGA and DVI connection. Would it make a difference using DVI instead of VGA ? I have a VGA plug from my monitor.

Re: Won't boot with my new graphics card

A BIOS flash is a possible solution, I will check for an update. The card is seated properly and the power supply is 500 w. so there should be enough power.

Re: Won't boot with my new graphics card

This board supports 4 DDR 2 modules and at the moment is fitted with 2 x 1Gb DDR 2 modules, I think the motherboard will support 8Gb of memory in total. Maybe I should just change the motherboard !

Recommend a graphics card

Can anyone recommend a cheap graphics card that will work without fault with Linux Mint Daryna, I don't play games so I don't need a performance card.

Thanks

Re: Won't boot with my new graphics card

I have looked in my motherboard manual and the on-board graphics chip is automatically disabled when an PCI-E card is installed. The driver is already set to VESA in xorg.conf. I do think that there is a conflict somewhere with the on-board and the new card, but I can't find where the conflict is, t...

Curiosity has the better of me and I would like someone to confirm how to go about doing this as I like to play around with Linux; though I don't want to loose all my files. How do I point to /Home on a different drive an...
