Re: System Restore

<off topic> Or go in TTY and remove with command line the graphics drivers you have just installed... Of course, this is to ASSUME the end-user knows beforehand that he/she has to use a virtual terminal and type in commands to remove the non-working graphics driver. But for the lot of end-use...

Re: System Restore

You could simply have removed the graphics driver. No need to reinstall... The problem is that the OS booted up to a black screen which made it impossible for me to access the Driver Manager. And that's where the Live CD/DVD/USB shines. If a normal installation goes FUBAR (e.g. GUI doesn't boot up)...

Re: System Restore

In the World of Linux, there was Remastersys - which has been discontinued. :( Quite a shame its development stopped (well, someone else took over but they decided not to make it available for free). What impressed me was the core was written entirely as a self-contained shell script. No need to co...

Re: Improving the password prompt situation for Linux

The OP could have responded to the initial replies with tact/diplomacy. But (s)he chose to throw an insult instead. From that moment, this thread started going downhill.

No point in keeping it open. Thread locked.

Re: wrong notification topic reply

Nothing wrong with receiving a topic reply, even if it was your own post. It's just standard forum procedure when you reply to a thread, you automatically get subscribed to it (as per settings in your User Control Panel) and will get notified of future replies, even if it was your own. AFAIK though,...

Re: could not update iceauthority and caja settings

This has been resolved. I am not sure how, but I tried some things suggested in other topics and it is now working. If you'd be kind enough to post links to the "things suggested in other topics," it will help would-be readers who end up on the same boat as you to find those resources qui...

Re: How to allow a user to install software?

The best solution would be to allow software installation into the user's home as opposed to systemwide, but I don't know if that can easily be done. This is only possible if the software in question was designed to be run directly without having to install it first. An example that comes to mind i...
