Re: LMDE. LMD...blah, blah, blah Its Mint Debian!

Referring to it as an edition is incorrect because its not based on the original Linux Mint like the other editions are.

Remove nouveau as default nvidia driver

Just about the first thing any nvidia user does when installing mint is removing nouveau and putting in the real nvidia driver.

Nouveau may be open source but its not a proper replacement and its not ready for prime time.

Re: Installing Mint Debian with Ubuntu /home partition

You can try it, I switched from mint 9 to debian mint which is almost the same thing. HOWEVER id recommend backing up your documents first. Id also recommend creating a new user account for the mint debian then after you have the install up and running add your ubuntu home user account WITH THE SAME...

LMDE. LMD...blah, blah, blah Its Mint Debian!

Mint Debian is short to the point, and summarizes what it is better than anything else I can think of.
Thats what it is on the front page and it works to signify that Mint Debian is sufficiently different from other mint versions
that a slightly different name is warranted.

Thats a very good point btw: If you can fit all your files on a flash drive a clean install will be for the best :)

Nice improvements and odd things under mint debian

1) WOW doesnt crash anymore in WINE, EVE online is also more stable 2) I can actually use the in program updates for firefox and thunderbird!!! Things are that are odd 1) Drivers are older, Ubuntu has 256 nvidia drivers, Debian is still using 195 2) Sound only works on one program at a time. You can...

Re: upgrading from mint ubuntu to mint debian (what I did)

I respectfully disagree, messy is a matter of opinion. I prefer having everything back up and running within minutes not hours. If you have a technical reason why this wont work Ill be happy to hear it. Since you only have to "upgrade" once, taking all your junk with you is not such a bad ...

Re: A little insight to using Debian

Mint Debian is not "Debian with training wheels", Its Debian with power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, the nice stereo, and the optional spoiler package :)

debian iso icon or the lack thereof

Its just a stupid sheet of paper.

Its a known thing...they wont fix it! maybe Mint can fix it.

It is really annoying!

upgrading from mint ubuntu to mint debian (what I did)

NOTE This only works if you have created a separate /home partition for your install of mint 9 1) Install the mint debian 2) format the / partition NOT the /home partition 3) When it asks you to create a user, it can NOT be the same user name as your existing named account, Call it "Installuser...

Replace Nouveau with real Nvidia drivers in Mint 10

Nouveau may be open source versus Nvidia proprietary drivers but the nvidia drivers work and the nouveau drivers don't. At some point the nvidia drivers may become open source but users dont care about social experiments they want their computers to work properly now. Nouveau by its own wiki says &q...

Re: Freeciv 2.2 in Mint 9, plz!!!!

Ok my question is why cant Mint pick certain program versions that arent in the Ubuntu release due to missing the feature freeze
but were ready for being distributed??? The Freeciv 2.2 debs are ready in Debian testing and all the dependency libraries
needed for it are included in Ubuntu 10.04.

Freeciv 2.2 in Mint 9, plz!!!!

All the supporting libraries needed to support freeciv 2.2 are there.

The 2.2 version came out 3 days after feature freeze.

No reason why Mint cant just put it in there.
