Re: How to check which GPU / OpenCL drivers are loaded?

AMDGPU is indeed included with the kernel and has in fact always been since it existed. The situation is that AMD itself develops the open-source AMDGPU driver which is, first, submitted to the kernel proper and, second, used as the basis for its self-distributed AMDGPU-PRO driver which is basicall...

Hoser Rob wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2020 8:37 am There's a CLI program called clinfo you can install to see ehat opencl levels are supported, here's the manpage: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/bio ... nfo.1.html. The OpenCL level of that card is what you get, you can't install newer versions.
Thanks, very good to know.

[SOLVED] How to check which GPU / OpenCL drivers are loaded?

I recently ran into some really weird problems with my system (boot issues), had to reinstall, but then OpenCL didnt work anymore. I use an AMD card (inxi says RX580 but it's a RX570). I used to install the amdgpu-pro driver, but in later versions of the linux kernel my understanding was that AMDGPU...

[SOLVED] Wondering about all the fuzz with Ubuntu and snap...

Hi everyone, this is not really a question that can be answered easily, but I do wonder about the future of Linux Mint with all that fuzz about Snap that Ubuntu is creating. I completely agree with the Mint devs on their view of this matter, and welcome their decision to oppose such a weird move int...

Re: LMDE or LM?

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. So my conclusion is: stay with LM. No advantage for me in LMDE, which seems to be more of a strategic plan B in case Ubuntu goes weird. :D

I am on 19.3. I just said I have been using LM since V17.

[SOLVED] LMDE or LM?

Hello, one question: I'm using Mint now since LM17, always the "normal" edition with Cinnamon desktop. I'm kind of curious about the LMDE edition, but what are the consequences? Hard for me to see any advantages/disadvantages. Is there any difference in driver support? Are there newer/olde...

That keyring password annoyance is still an issue in 2019... but thankfully, this seems to have worked.

Re: [Sucess]AMDGPU Drivers Installed on Mint 19.1

Very nice. I just installed the drivers myself, and used another way. Edit /etc/os-release (as root), which looks somehting like this, and change the bold lines to look like here. So change "linuxmint" to "ubuntu" and "19.1" to "18.04". That will fool these in...

Re: AMDGPU driver installation crashes on Mint 19.1

So just in case anybody reads this and has similar issues: I sent back the Vega and got an RX580 in the meantime, and with the same AMDGPU-PRO driver, there are no problems so far. Unfortunately, my card has an annoying coil whine, but that is another issue. Otherwise, the system runs stable, the ca...

Ok thanks. Then I will sadly send the Vega back, and get a RX570/580 instead. Will be enough for my use cases. Hope this will work better.

Re: AMDGPU driver installation crashes on Mint 19.1

Ok roblm, thanks a lot. Seems I have to return this card. Do you think just getting an older one, like the RX580, could be a good idea? I really want to switch back to AMD, because with NVidia the problem is while they are used for OpenCL-computing, the system becomes very unresponsive. With AMD, ev...

Re: AMDGPU driver installation crashes on Mint 19.1

Thanks a lot... installed the driver now, and the card, and at first it seemed to work fine... Leela (the go bot, my only reason for buying a GPU really is to do opencl) started up and worked for a few minutes. Then however the system froze, not even the hardware reset worked... Power off/on reboote...

Re: Entries in "Open With" missing

Thanks, putting it in a script is a good idea. I've reinstalled one of the programs now, which creates the desktop icon, but nothing in "open with". However there are several entries for "wine internet explorer" and many other doubles? Can I get rid of these? And if I can, I can ...

Entries in "Open With" missing [SOLVED]

Not sure where this question should go, Mod pls feel free to move! I used to have some Wine-applications (Tygem, MultiGo...) installed and they were showing up in the "Open with" dialog in Nemo. In my new Mint 19 installation, I copied the whole Wine-prefix from my old Mint 17.3 (because i...

Two more questions: how do I get back the desktop icons for the wine-programs?
And how do I get the wine-programs listed in the "Open with..." dialog?
