As @gostal implied, the wg issue was kernel based. Early on, there was no kernel support, so a wireguard module had to be installed. Later kernel support was added, but did not work well in all cases. Currently (Nov 15, 2020), everything seems resolved...at least as far as installation and use goes....

Take a look at the edit in the previous post. I cannot boot into LMDE. It has disappeared. As I mentioned in the first post it does not show up in GRUB.
