Re: Forum Settings Tutorial?

I can't help with the login frequency you are describing. It does seem a bit odd. When I login the login seems to persist for a reasonable amount time. That said I use the auto-type feature of keepassx for logging in, so logging in only takes a second or so. If you want to try keepassx you can insta...

Re: World Comunity Grid download

Matter of fact, this looks highly worthwhile--I'm going to try it for a bit. Are you on a "team" or would you recommend me joining one? Used to do WCG myself for years. If you are going to join Fred maybe there is a Linux Mint team already there. If not you can always try starting one you...

Re: 17.3, turning off inhibition

Actually, Radish, inhibition is on automatically. From "What's New" @ https://linuxmint.com/rel_rosa_mate_whatsnew.php Okay, ron-o, this is at the edge of my newbie level but I'd guess you're misunderstanding how this inhibit thing works. (If I get this wrong maybe someone with more exper...

Re: 17.3, turning off inhibition

As far as I know the inhibit function is off by default. Inhibit will only be activated by a program that specifically does activate it e.g. VLC, Firefox while watching YouTube, p2p programs, the Inhibit Applet, and so on. So it seems like your question is: is there a way to prevent any particular p...

Re: Just installed linux and ready to setup personal preferences

If you want a GUI to set the firewall then search in Software Manager for " gufw " (without the quotes). When it installs it will turn up in menu as Menu > Preferences > Firewall Configuration Even after install of gufw you will need to launch it to set it to an active state. Once you've d...

Re: May have issues with receiving email from here

Several things you can do. A) Assuming you have a web email account add Linux Mint domain to your " Safe Senders " list. To do that do the following: 1) Login to your web email account. 2) Go to your user settings panel and look for the item that deals with "Safe Senders" (it mig...

Re: Nemo question: How to see actual file extension?

Linux doesn't use file extensions like Windows does. I suspect you are searching for something that doesn't exist. (This confused me a lot too when I transferred to Mint. You can try reading this thread here as it turns into a discussion on this topic: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90...

Re: Peerguardian & bittorrent on linux?

Sorry, I use Tixati as a portable so have no idea where it goes if installed via a full installer routine. However, when you are searching for where it is installed you might be searching in the wrong place. I would try searching in the entire File System - that will force the search routine to sear...

Re: Suggestions for remote avatar gallery / location? (solved)

It's just important to use the https address pointing to your image when you set it up in your account. For example I use https://imgur.com/ to feed my avatar to Mint Forums. Once I uploaded the image to imgur I then had two url options to use to enter into my Mint account for the avatar: 1) http://...

Re: Pros and Cons of installing Linux Alongside Windows 10

Take out the Win10 HDD. Install Mint to a new HDD. Then when you want to sell on just pop the Win10 HDD back in place.

Personally I'd steer well clear of Microsoft's latest Spyware Suite posing as an operating system. It's one of the reasons I switched entirely over to Mint.

Re: Suggestions for remote avatar gallery / location? (solved)

I think after the new forum went online as HTTPS the advice from Mint developers was that they would prefer it if people used HTTPS addresses for feeding avatars and other images.

Re: Peerguardian & bittorrent on linux?

Personally I would recommend Tixati . You can get it as a portable and run it that way for testing purposes (though I run it as a portable all the time with no problems though you do need to manually set it as the default program to use for "*.torrent" files). In many ways it is pretty muc...

Re: Keepassx 2.0.2 Apparent bugs

Thanks Cosmo - some great tips there. The notion that I might have installed some software that suddenly grabbed the Ctrl-Alt-P hotkeys combination did start to occur to me as a I typed out my first response in this thread. I especially like the suggestion of using the [super]-key (aka the [Windows]...

I'm a newbie at Mint myself and this graphics card issue is beyond my skill level. Ah well. Maybe someone will come along shortly and give expert advice. Maybe they will know how to give "Inhibit Applet" on XFCE at try. Though if it is a graphics card issue then a fix (not a work-around) m...

Re: Keepassx 2.0.2 Apparent bugs

Hello Jefferson. Welcome to Mint, hope you stick around. :) Like Cosmo I use Keepassx 0.4.3 and have no issues with it (other than my Ctrl+Alt+P hotkey just stopped working one day - see below). With that said you might find the following information useful as some of it will still apply to Keepassx...

Mint and Updating the System Time Using NTP Time Servers

Could someone tell me if Mint can update the computer time against Network Time Protocol (NTP) time servers? If it can, could someone explain how I set things up so that I can take charge of this process and get my install of Mint to update the time using an IP address of a public time server of my ...
