thank you, i did the fresh install, all good, now just the lost icons, was ok until i installed skype 4.1, after that the icons on task bar and start menu went away.
the drivers installed default are the Gallium, i thought they were Nouveau, anyway Gallium it is.

yes home in another partition, partitions are /boot, swap, /, /home, dual boot with win7 screens are 2 x 24" led benq's 1920 x 1080, i had been formatting / only with the repair install, trying to set up afresh to eliminate problems with buggy package installer, it not installing stuff properly...

anymore news on this one please? sometimes on login the icons on task bar and menu are either not forming properly of different ones used from what should be there, menu button, sound, calendar/time remain ok, an update to fix much appreciated, thank you :) all windows, show desktop and pinned items...

i had problems with nvidia driver on 13 rc cinnamon, stuffed things up, just uninstalled it (deactivated nvidia drivers) rebooted and all is well, just not using nvidia driver now (will see how things go after final is out), both screens work well, but do check the nvidia control centre you might be...

i notice on mine that there is, just before the desktop comes in, there is a blink of multi-colour, not sure but maybe graphics sorting itself out as the desktop loads (doesn't affect anything, desktop always loads) or some such thing

yeah, thanks for that mate, i just had a case where xp was in after mint, usually do it the other way round, this was an unusual one, anyway, tried the manual mounting and such, but ended up having success with that boot repair disk, a beauty
