Re: [SOLVED] How to update Flash and LibreOffice

Firefox can't use a PPAPI plugin directly, so that won't work. You could install the package browser-plugin-freshplayer-pepperflash (it's in Debian Jessie's backports repository). This will provide Rinat Ibragimov's freshplayerplugin which translates the PPAPI to Firefox's NPAPI. Edit I just noticed...

Re: I really don't appreciate replacing my .bashrc

Default .bashrc files have this:

Code: Select all

if [ -f ~/.bash_aliases ]; then
    . ~/.bash_aliases
fi

So that's supported already.

Re: GRUB 2 does not start from BIOS anymore

Then I'm out of ideas. As I mentioned before, maybe this particular motherboard has issues with legacy booting a GPT disk . There are some forum threads elsewhere that mention similar problems (in particular the bit about ending up in the BIOS menu). https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/42781/ https:/...

Re: I really don't appreciate replacing my .bashrc

Yeh that can happen :-( Search these forums or launchpad. Make sure to backup everything so you have a copy. Bug #1196553 reported by Zorael on 2013-07-01 mint-configuration-kde overwrites configuration files (eg /etc/bash.bashrc) without creating backups Well then I stand corrected :? As I recall ...

Re: Adobe Flash

The current version of flash for Firefox (which is what you asked for in the first posting in this thread) is the one supplied by the adobe-flashplugin package.

Re: How to update Flash and LibreOffice

To be honest, I'm surprised the update hasn't appeared already. The tarball from Adobe indicates the new version was produced October 24th. Building a new package like this should be scripted/automated, so it should have been available days ago. I would pick up the tarball and extract the libflashpl...

Re: How to update Flash and LibreOffice

Either that or you download the tar.gz file containing the plugin from Adobe's site and drop the plugin in /opt/mintflashplugin-11 yourself.

Re: How to update Flash and LibreOffice

The PPAPI plugin (23 series) won't work with Firefox. You need the 11 series (currently 11.2.202.643). I would expect Mint to update the mintflashplugin-11 package to that version shortly (they certainly should, because this is not something you can just leave hanging at an older version...). You co...

Re: Error during installing pepper flash for chromium

The pepperflashplugin-nonfree package uses Google's Chrome package to get the plugin, but Google stopped providing the plugin with Chrome. The error appears to be about something else involving the Chrome package, but you may want to switch to the adobe-flashplugin package anyway: https://wiki.ubunt...

Re: GRUB 2 does not start from BIOS anymore

You say you don't get a menu. What exactly do you get? Black/blank screen? Some kind of error message? It takes me to the BIOS menu Weird. I wonder if this particular motherboard's firmware has issues with legacy booting a GPT disk. I remember reading on Rod Smith's website that not all UEFI implem...

Re: GRUB 2 does not start from BIOS anymore

That... is a very strange update-grub output. It seems to be repeating itself. Twice over. And also missing several of the other partitions. I see sda2, 4, 14 and 15 mentioned three times and no mention of the others. Looking at the latest GParted image you provided, I'd say only 1, 10, 11 and 12 sh...

Re: GRUB 2 does not start from BIOS anymore

Originally, "bios_grub" partition wasn't set properly, but presumably that's fixed now. Had OP re-install grub from a distro that he/she wants to have in control of booting with sudo grub-install --recheck /dev/sda command. In my view that should have resulted in OP having a grub menu on ...

Re: GRUB 2 does not start from BIOS anymore

That's an MBR partition table disk, not a GPT one. It doesn't need a BBP (partition with bios_grub flag, to store GRUB's core image) like the other one, because this type has enough space to store the core image before the first partition. On a GPT disk, that space is taken up by the GPT. https://en...

Re: Vivaldi and pepperflash

For the record, the packages provided by Google no longer contain the PepperFlash plugin. As the pepperflashplugin-nonfree package is using the Google package to get the plugin (unless it has been changed recently), this will no longer work. For anyone using a Ubuntu derivative, I suggest switching ...

The logs shouldn't be a problem. Some of the stuff in /etc/ufw/application.d is installed by other applications. I'd just leave it.

Re: Completely remove ufw and gufw

That's how the package manager (dpkg) works. It can only remove things it installed and if it finds a directory it wants to remove isn't empty, it doesn't remove it. The files you mentioned were probably created by gufw, after that application was installed. So dpkg doesn't know about them. Unless t...

Re: Keyboard: US international with dead keys issue

Which setting are you actually referring to? There's "international with dead keys" and "international with dead keys via AltGr" (not sure about the exact phrase as I'm using a localized system). The behaviour you describe w.r.t. the dead keys is the one linked to the former (i.e...

Re: Aptitude/apt vs. Mint Update

The problem with aptitude is it tries to be too smart. It uses the main database for most of its actions, but has a separate database (/var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates) for changes the user 'intended' to make: https://lists.debian.org/debian-dpkg/2012/03/msg00063.html As above, most of pkgstates is actua...

Re: Aptitude/apt vs. Mint Update

Yes, that's still the one you get when you use 'apt' in the terminal (/usr/local/bin is before /usr/bin in the search path).
