Re: [Tutorial] [Completed] How to install OpenCL support

It would be still nice if OpenCL support was automatically installed for Intel and AMD GPUs, with OPenSource drivers or with proprietary ones. At this point, many people have an option of which one they might want to use (one of the key advantages to Linux-based distros). Perhaps if its use becomes...

Re: 6700XT OpenCL and dual monitor problems...

I don't think you want to run OpenCL using the mesa libraries but the AMD libraries. Can you translate that into a command? What do you mean? Not install the mesa-opencl-icd (I have no clue what that is, but I've seen different "icds")? Instead installing another? The AMD instructi...

Re: 6700XT OpenCL and dual monitor problems...

Ok.... disregard my last post (or not, I don't know what's relevant anymore...). I just tried this mesa-opencl-icd package that I never needed before (with "$ sudo apt install mesa-opencl-icd") And suddenly, I get the opencl-device (I should mention I switched GPU again back to the RX6770X...

Re: 6700XT OpenCL and dual monitor problems...

After the installation is finished, copy the entire installation log in the Terminal window and post it. Ok so now I'm slowly getting desparate. This didn't even install: $ amdgpu-install --usecase=workstation --opencl=rocr Ign:1 http://linux-mint.froonix.org vera InRelease OK:2 http://linux-mint.f...

Re: 6700XT OpenCL and dual monitor problems...

Ok so I tried again. Deinstalled the complete amdgpu package with amdgpu-uninstall. Then downloaded the amdgpu-install_5.4.50405-1_all.deb package for Ubuntu 22.04.02 (not .05... not sure which one I need). Installed the package once again using $ amdgpu-install --opencl=rocr --no-dkms to exclude t...

Re: 6700XT OpenCL and dual monitor problems...

Yes I installed the drivers, and I know which ones I need... I used OpenCL all the time with the old RX570, for years now. I know the graphic drivers are part of the kernel, I'm not trying to install those. I only use the opencl-portion of the amdgpu drives, cause there's no other way to get that......

Re: 6700XT OpenCL and dual monitor problems...

I run Mint 21.1. On kernel 5.15 it seems that the amdgpu drivers do not work (which are needed for the opencl package). Which opencl package are you using (or wanting to use)? Just the one from the AMD drivers from their website or a different one? Now after booting 5.19 I only have one monitor (th...

6700XT OpenCL and dual monitor problems...

Hey there, struggling for a half day now to get a Sapphire Pulse 6700XT working in my system. I run into all kinds of trouble... What I need in the end is 2 things: a working OpenCL device, and dual monitor support. Both were no issue with my RX570 so far. I run Mint 21.1. On kernel 5.15 it seems th...

Re: What do you guys think about Vanilla OS?

"think about vanilla" OK, No user forum = NO APX, If it relies mainly on flatpak, and appimage, then = BIG NO *1 The core parts of the system are locked down to prevent unwanted changes and corruption from third-party applications or a faulty update. This I like, seen too many threads whe...

Re: What do you guys think about Vanilla OS?

I will take a look . . . why not? I guess I just set in my ways now. There is no way I am going to be happy with anything other than the perfect DE which just happens to be Cinnamon. I have installed Cinnamon on every thing under the sun - Debian neinstl, Ubuntu server, Fedora server and a million ...

Re: What do you guys think about Vanilla OS?

Honestly though I have kind of gotten out of my "checking out other distros" phase. They all seem to run together and are never quite "right." Probably because I have been on Mint Cinnamon for a decade and have become so comfortable with it. Me too, that's why it's unusual for m...

What do you guys think about Vanilla OS?

Would be curious to hear some opinions here, especially from the Mint-dev-team. Vanilla seems to have some interesting concepts that may be of value to other distros as well? What do guys think about it? The A/B update system seems relevant to me in particular. Any plans for something like that? Als...

Re: Need advice on a new inkjet printer well supported under Linux

Hey Bruno, sorry for ignoring you! Didn't get an alert that you answered. Glad I could help, I have the feeling many people don't know how freaking great this really is now with Airprint/IPP/Mopria. To answer your question that is probably no longer relevant :) Yes, there are all the usual options t...

Just for the record, I had the same problem during the update to Mint 21, and the askubuntu-link worked for me, too (reinstalling casper).

Re: Is IPP the same as AirPrint?

Thanks again for clearing this up, more or less :) I do have the impression that people are not really informed about these developments. The questions about printer and scanner drivers that I read on related message boards reflect that. Maybe that could be pushed a bit with some articles on tech si...

Thanks Brian, very useful info.

Is IPP the same as AirPrint? [SOLVED]

Brian here helped me recently getting my new Brother printer to work with IPP (which worked right out of the box) and sane-airscan (which Brian helped me install and that works also perfectl). But my printer officially supports AirPrint, not IPP. Then I had a long discussion on a printer-specific si...

Re: Need advice on a new inkjet printer well supported under Linux

Hey Bruno, I just got my new Brother MFC-J4540DW to work with Mint over LAN only by using ipp for printing and sane-airscan for scanning. I think these 2 protocols are not "just protocols" anymore, because they come from Mopria, the alliance of all major manufacturers and IPP is, as far as...

Re: Scanning with Brother MFC-J4540DW [SOLVED]

So I just read a bit about this sane-thing... this means that every printer / mfd that supports Apple Print and / or has "Mopria" on the box will probably work like a charm? I mean I won't ask why it took the industry like 5 decades to come up with a standard protocol for printing and scan...
