You've got it :D. New developments are on the way but will only affect legacy/classical devices.

I hope you will consider marking this issue as [SOLVED].
I sure will and thanks for all the effort. That is really great news, scanning and printing were such a PITA for so long under Linux... 8)

Re: Scanning with Brother MFC-J4540DW

OMG  I take back everything I just said and will proclaim the opposite from now on :D I simply chose the wrong scanner entry from the list, it should be the "eSCL Brother", not the "ESCL Brother"! Thanks a lot, I'm so glad that this works. Not that I really depend on it, b...

Re: Scanning with Brother MFC-J4540DW

Hi Brian, thanks for the answer, but unfortunately no luck. I installed sane-airscan, and got the same response from scanimage as before (the Ubuntu wiki included that command): w@w-mint:~$ scanimage -L device `brother5:net1;dev0' is a Brother device `escl:http://192.168.0.241:80' is a ESCL Brother ...

Scanning with Brother MFC-J4540DW [SOLVED]

So the printing part of this Brother was instantly working after plugging it in. Never seen such a smooth install. Even duplex printing working just fine out of the box. However, scanning is a mess. I tried the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Scanner/Brother/ and the ones on the Brother ...

Re: Need advice on a new inkjet printer well supported under Linux

Good to know AZgl1800, I'm also looking at one of the Ecotanks as my next printer. Shame yours seems to not have duplex+adf, because it would be interesting to know if these features also work well on Mint. My last Epson worked, but duplex didn't... so I'm a bit hesitant to just buy one. But anyway ...

Re: Local printing is worse quality than printing from phone via wifi?

@brian_p

is this step of creating a printer queue always needed on 20.3 or was there something special in this case? Because the "official" docs (are they official?) do not mention such a step....

Oh and you may be interested in this page, it just explained a lot to me about the driverless thing :)

It seems you have the option of using driverless OR the manufacturer drivers after all.

Re: Need advice on a new inkjet printer well supported under Linux

Sorry, no answer for you but I have the same issue. After doing a lot of research I think I'll go for Epson. Canon seems to provide Linux support, but only rpm and source code? Seems to be rather tedious. Check this out (you have to switch to your country/language): https://www.canon.at/support/cons...

Kodi keymap.xml not doing anything

I've created a Kodi keymap in ~/.kodi/userdata/keymaps/keymap.xml , but it doesn't do anything at all. It's like it doesn't exist. I'm using Mint 20.3 and latest Kodi from the repo, see attachments. The way I know the keymap doesn't work is: it should block the displaying of the controls during full...

Re: Weird color problems on AMD card with video playback [SOLVED]

Ok, so I finally solved it - not really, but at least I got Kodi to work again. The tip about trying different gpu acceleration settings led me to try to deactivate hardware acceleration in Kodi completely or, alternatively, only for HEVC. If I do that, the problematic videos are played back correct...

Re: Weird color problems on AMD card with video playback

Try different video hardware accelerated decode methods in VLC settings and see if any work as expected (some won't output anything). Thanks for this tip, the hw accel settings didn't change anything, but I found another setting "Video/Output" with values like "OpenGL", "Wa...

Re: Weird color problems on AMD card with video playback

I have a AMD RX570 and can play H265 videos fine. See if there are any clues in vainfo. In the terminal type: vainfo . You might need to install it first with sudo apt install vainfo . Then I would try to run vlc or celluloid from the terminal. There might be some warnings or errors on the terminal...

Re: Weird color problems on AMD card with video playback

If all else fails.. restore a Timeshift snapshot to 2 or 3 + weeks ago when it worked fine, or do a system image restoration from that far back. Beyond that, I'll politely sit quietly while others give input. Yeah thanks, but I tried that already... no snapshot until a month ago worked... so maybe ...

Re: Weird color problems on AMD card with video playback

Just want to add that I already tried to reinstall the codec-meta-package. No difference. I didn't mess with anything related to codecs, gpu drivers ... at least not that I am aware of it. Nor did I install or remove software that would have an obvious influence on display, video playback, codecs. A...

Re: Weird color problems on AMD card with video playback [SOLVED]

I've never had such a problem before with Mint or other distributions with my AMD card (RX570). It seems all H265 encoded video files are played back with these wrong colors... only the grey-value is correct (I checked by adding a sepia filter in VLC.. then it looks ok, but no colors). But as you ca...

Re: Error updating AMD/rocm/OpenCL packages

Thanks a lot again. Very helpful. One thing I do know is that they fixed the whole Ubuntu-only issue a while back. Before that, one had to tinker with the install script to get over the OS-check, which was easy at first, a bit more difficult in a later version, and eventually they included Mint in t...

Re: Error updating AMD/rocm/OpenCL packages

Hi SMG, sorry for the late answer. Thanks a lot for your insights and for checking the repo page. I'm a programmer, but honestly the whole package system in Linux always has been a bit of a mystery to me... I removed the sources, now the errors are gone. Don't know if there's anything important ther...

Re: Error updating AMD/rocm/OpenCL packages

Thanks for your answer. These errors appear in mintUpdate, whenever I try to install the updates that come from these packages. Honestly I don't remember where I got them from. Probably from the time when we still had to install amdgpu-pro-* drivers. Which isn't that long ago... not sure in which ke...

[SOLVED] Error updating AMD/rocm/OpenCL packages

Not sure where to ask this question, but since it only concerns "rocm" packages from AMD, I guess here is a good place. I never had problems with any of the AMD packages, or OpenCL, or the gpu driver. But a few weeks back these errors came up, and they persist. What can I do about that? Is...

Re: How to check which GPU / OpenCL drivers are loaded?

.... Hurray, right? Yes, except that lots of users, in the clueless lusers sense, started objecting loudly to not being able to clickety-click their way to colourfully AMD-logoed mental coziness while utterly unaware that AMD GPU support on Linux just got a whole lot better and was specifically a d...
