Re: Gnome Sound Converter Problem
I found the default setting for libmp3lame0 is 160kbps and does not change with Gnome Sound Converter but can be changed when using WinFF or FFMulticonverter. I'm not sure why GSC encodes at 160 kbps them recodes at a higher bitrate.

Re: LAME GUI or auto transcoder?
After doing a little digging, I also found two more called WinFF and soundKonverter but...I don't know if WinFF uses LAME and soundKonverter is a KDE application (although I don't think it matters) and might be a little more than I need. WinFF uses the lame encoder as does ffmpeg for encoding mp3s.

Re: LAME GUI or auto transcoder?
I would recommend FFmultiConverter.

I do not recommend Gnome Sound Converter.

Re: Gnome Sound Converter Problem
all files(FLAC) are encoded to 160 kbps instead of whatever bitrate (320,256,192) I set in the gui. Did you mean that when you convert FLAC files to MP3, the MP3 bitrate is incorrect ? Yes! Instead of converting the FLAC files to 320 kbps (or 256 kbps or 192 kbps) it creates a 320kbps mp3 but with ...

Gnome Sound Converter Problem
Just noticed something strange while using Gnome Sound Converter 1.5.4 on my system (Mint 13 MATE) all files(FLAC) are encoded to 160 kbps instead of whatever bitrate (320,256,192) I set in the gui. When using Audacity to convert files, the files are encoded at the correct bitrate. Only with the set...

Re: More pop-ups despite Adblock + addon for Firefox
Adblock Plus and Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon on Firefox works well for what it was originally designed for but sneaky advertisers are finding ways to get around Adblock and constantly annoy you with infuriating screen ads. Does anyone know how to block those screen ads? If we don't find a way to stop...

[5] Details! Details! Details! Include the version and architecture (32-bit, 64-bit) of Linux Mint. List any relevant hardware or software specifications. 'inxi' is a useful terminal command for listing this. Use inxi -h for help. Generally it suffices to type the following in terminal and include ...

Re: Mint has a panic?
Kernal panic usually has to do hardware failure not the OS. You can restart you computer than on the login screen choose terminal in options list or press ctrl alt f1 to open a tty than run a checkdisk. Once the terminal opens copy and paste this into it: chkdsk If there are any errors with hard dri...

Re: Audio Editor
Audacity is as good as it gets. I don't seee why anyone wouldn't want to use it. I Because it has an awkward GUI and crashes without warning. Adobe Audition (v1.5) under wine is more reliable, easier to use, starts a lot faster and, surprisingly, uses fewer resources. It does crash frequently but A...

caja is good but utdated as functionality for example Move-To can only move to trash or desktop - it is important for companies or individuals to send to > folder of choice OR favorite folders OR mail app etc Use tabs! Audacity is as good as it gets. I don't seee why anyone wouldn't want to use it. I used several editors on Linux through the years. For awhile I used wavepad through wine but they changed from freeware to shareware so I tried Jokosher and Traverso for a time. I didn't like either. Audacity pretty mu...

The update notification in the lower right corner of my screen (I am using Cinnamon) showed that I needed to install updates. So I tried using terminal and entered sudo apt-get update. It ran, so far so good. But afterwards, the update notification still showed that I needed to install updates. Doe...

Re: Unusual battery charging after installing TLP
Charging starts upon connecting AC power, but only if the remaining capacity is below the value of START_CHARGE_TRESH (lower threshold). Charging stops when reaching the STOP_CHARGE_TRESH (upper threshold) value. If, however when you connect the AC adapter, charge is above the lower threshold, then...
