Re: Volume setting is not saved LMDE 6
Maybe a safety setting so you don't accidentally damage your hearing? IDK. What I did, wanting to go the other direction, was to add this custom command in Startup Applications: /bin/bash -c 'sleep 2; pactl set-sink-mute @DEFAULT_SINK@ 0; pactl set-sink-volume @DEFAULT_SINK@ 16384' After logging in ...

Re: How to improve typeface
I don't have LMDE here but on the LM 21.3 Cinnamon you would open System Settings, go to Font Selection and you can configure hinting and antialiasing there. Here's the default on LM 21.3 Cinnamon:

Re: Is there a way for me to check dependencies of an AppImage?
xz 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 were published in February and March: https://git.tukaani.org/?p=xz.git;a=shortlog so if the AppImage was made before then, and it doesn't update itself, then it would seem to be safe.

Re: Is there a way for me to check dependencies of an AppImage?
Binarly made a file scanner available that can detect the xz malware in ELF files (Linux executables): https://xz.fail/ Don't know if that works for AppImages, but they are ELF files so you could try uploading it. I don't know anything about how AppImages are made but searching in their GitHub repo...

Re: Upgrade to Vanessa failure & 2 other issues
Open Software Sources program from your menu, go to Additional Repositories and then find the Google Earth -- something dl.google.com/linux/earth/deb -- repository and remove it. That should fix the upgrade issue. For the display resolution issue better to make a separate topic here https://forums.l...

Searching for "error: prohibited by secure boot policy" found https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=282076 which points at https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/grub.git/commit/?id=93a786a00163e50c29f0394df198518617e1c9a5 as a possible culprit. In short: if you have secure boot enabled, g...

Re: Bigger directories size of Flatpak in timeshift snapshots
flatpak uses deduplication with I think hard links. Maybe Timeshift doesn't handle that correctly and re-duplicates such files? Check with this how many hard links are in each directory: find /var/lib/flatpak -links +1 | wc -l find /timeshift/snapshots/2024-03-31_16-13-41/localhost/var/lib/flatpak -...

Re: How do I downgrade xz-utils and liblzma? (I manually installed the malware version from somewhere)
Admin note: split from chat topic Malware in xz (but don't panic: not in your Mint) , moved to support forum and clarified subject. --- As everybody I think, curious how you installed xz-utils 5.6.1 as that is not available on any Linux Mint release. Also which Linux Mint version are you using? A r...

Re: How to use Workspaces
Go to Settings > Applets > Grouped Window List, then on its General tab in the Behavior section it has the setting to show windows on all workspaces or not. Maybe use App Launcher https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/344 to group a bunch of those apps, instead of pinning them all to th...

Re: How to use Workspaces
There is only 1 Cinnamon panel across workspaces so you can't put different things on the panel for different workspaces. The app launchers on the left are part of the grouped window list applet. You can "pin to panel" any app to put its launcher there. But the applet isn't aware of worksp...

So long as you don't deliberately change the BIOS logo image you should be fine.

Re: Bios may be hacked but i have no clue.
That's a reality unfortunately, motherboard manufacturers supported their products only a couple of years if that with BIOS updates. Maybe it's a getting bit better now. Anyway not all UEFI motherboards or systems are vulnerable. For example Dell and Apple have extra protections (won't let you chang...

Re: Bios may be hacked but i have no clue.
If you've been hacked, you were the one to do it — you went into the BIOS and set the image to one you download from somewhere, or you ran some program from the motherboard manufacturer to customize the image. If you didn't it is unlikely you are affected. I don't know how you can check if you are a...

Re: Bios may be hacked but i have no clue.
That vulnerability is called "LogoFAIL". Here's the (very technical) article from the researchers that discovered it: https://www.binarly.io/blog/finding-logofail-the-dangers-of-image-parsing-during-system-boot The short of it is that many UEFI firmware manufacturers were caught red handed...

Re: IRC Chat offline - pls help
At times the SpotChat network, on which the Mint IRC channels are located, blocks mibbit. That means you can't use a web based IRC client. You will have to use an actual IRC client app. Like HexChat, that comes preinstalled with Linux Mint. On Linux Mint simply start it to connect to the Mint IRC ch...

Re: Linux Mint time incorrect after booting Windows
Do you drive a delorean maybe :) Or what's a "time fuse". From time of year I guess you mean DST is in effect. The problem is you have set Windows to use local time for the hardware clock and Linux to use UTC (universal) time. Because Windows and Linux read the hardware clock differently, ...
