(Solved) Default handling of .deb packages?

Postby Tony G » Fri Jul 04, 2008 10:47 am

When I double-click on a downloaded .deb, instead of an installer, ark is launched. I was wondering whether this is the default Mint 4 KDE CE action, or whether I've removed something from Mint that changed the default behavior.

(Not really a big deal, as right-clicking gives an install option, and dpkg works).

Thanks,

Anthony

Best to, as you say, right click the .deb and install with dpkg.

No doubt. I've just messed around enough with my M4 KCE install ("learning through breaking") that I was wondering whether double-clicking launches the installer (as it does in Mepis, e.g.) in a less mucked-with version of Darnya KCE.

Kpackage. I must have uninstalled Kpackage, which comes by default.

KPackage is no good as it cannot handle dependencies (AFAIK). Default package installer should be gdebi-kde IMHO.

I think you have to have the gdebi package installed for the click on a deb package elicits the automatic install.
