Thinking of taking Mint KDE for a spin but...

Only if it doesn't use the same package manager as Kubuntu. I did find one thread that mentioned Synaptic as the package manager but it wasn't clear.

Synaptic is included. Check out the Live CD for yourself, that way you can see if it works with your hardware and if it has the applications you want.

I didn't want to go through the trouble of downloading and burning if I knew I wouldn't use it and a LIVE CD is no way to test an operating system's capabilities IMO.

Since it does use Synaptic I will install it. Thanks exploder.
