Your favorite dock for KDE

Postby mintnoob » Wed Jul 07, 2010 11:33 am

I tried Kooldock, but it had graphic problems and looks like an abandoned project.

Fancy Tasks wouldn't work at all. It would just crash my screen.

Daisy Plasma seems to work the best for me, but you have to double-click the icons to launch which gets annoying (anyone know how to change it to single-clicks?). Also, the Synaptic won't start with Admin privileges from the dock.

I use a seperate pannel on the right with all the apps i use frequently on it.
Check kdeglobals for a "double-click=true" vairable or something like that.
The rc file for daisy plasma may have its own double/single-click variable.

cheers

Didn't see anything in kdeglobals. Where do I find Daisy's RC file? Many thanks.

I just tried that, but Daisy still requires a double-click. :mad:

Btw, does the name of the apps show up when you hover your mouse over the app icons? I can't get it to show for me.

look for a user level hidden plasma rc file eg:
~/.plasmarc
or ~./plasma_appletsrc
in there will be all your plasma apps and layout, there could be a plasma config section for daisy and in there sets the click number.

In plasma-desktop-appletsrc Daisy is listed, but nothing about clicking:

Code: Select all

plugin=plasma_applet_daisy
position=top_center
reservespace=false
screen=-1
showindicons=true
showmirror=true
showondesk=false
showtooltips=true
showtooltips_launchers=false
theme=default
theme_t=mach
tip_type=text
total_launchers=8
type=standard_dock
zoomtype=simple
zvalue=56

Pardon me for the stupid question, but is a dock kind of like a panel but with more eye candy (and using more resources?) Functionally, are docks an improvement over panels? Or are they basically the same thing? Thanks for any replies.

Yep, pretty much more eye candy that uses more resources. I just added one because my laptop was fast enough and it looked really cool, but I'd prefer panels over docks in the long run.
