Installing/Uninstalling KDE on Mint XFCE

Postby yirgen » Thu Aug 06, 2009 6:11 am

Hi everyone!

I totally love the latest Linux Mint XFCE Edition ! Runs like a clock...
However I'm curious on trying out KDE, since I haven't tried it in a few years.

Can I install KDE on my XFCE Edition, try it out, and then totally remove KDE and all of those dependencies without any problems?
Is it possible this will break my system?

I don't wan't KDE to leave a bunch of stuff on my harddrive when I'm done with it.

Thanks for your ideas!

Not very likely.

Yes.

Unless you are a confident, experienced Linux user this is not something I would suggest you attempt. Desktop environments are complex beasts consisting of many packages. It would be better for you to try KDE using a Live Linux CD first, see how you like it, and if it suits you then install it as a separate boot system. My humble opinion.

Thanks lagagnon for your opinion!

I am actually rather experienced, but I've never really liked KDE. Bloated with loads of dependencies hogging the system.
However perhaps things have changed since 3.x...

Think I'll try the latest out trough VirtualBox or something.

Have a nice day!
