Mint 8 Xfce in a Compaq N600C Laptop

Postby bobpur » Sat Mar 13, 2010 9:02 am

This little laptop is solid Intel throughout. Mint 8 Xfce installed and ran perfectly. At least, I haven't found anything that I can lay on the OS.

The Intel graphics show some of the dialog boxes full of blinking vertical lines. As far as I can tell they stay that way until you clear them off the screen. Also, some of the screensavers show up the same way. The pictures folder is one that does. I guess this is the fault of Intel graphics and not the OS. I'll have to play with it later. The Intel graphics in this machine usually don't give me much trouble with linux distros.

The wireless card I use with this machine is a Belkin F5D9010 with a Ralink chip. It worked out of the box. No complaints there.

Thanks for a great OS.

Glad you like it. Hope it does a good job for you.

Have you tried installing the level 4 updates to xorg from Update Manager? Some of them deal specifically with Intel graphics support.
