Avant-Window-Manager not working for XFCE CE Beta

Postby pingu_dan » Thu Jan 17, 2008 9:50 am

Which is a shame as I was wondering just how it would run on my battered old PIII-900 using XFCE's compisitor.

If there is any information I can provide to help resolve this let me know.

Thanks

This person

found that Avant on xfce in Ubuntu messed everything up
Others seem to have success
Google " avant xfce " and see if you find anything. I mostly run the main edition as I like it better than the other editions

Well the software portal version doesn't work for me but I added other repositories to get at it, only to find that XFCE 4.4.1 which is the version in XFCE CE Beta008 doesn't work well with it. Specifically, Awn keeps grabbing focus from other apps.

Out of sheer curiosity I switched from gutsy to hardy repositories, upgraded to XFCE 4.4.2 (switched backup to gutsy repos) and tried again and, yeah, it works. The performance is ever so slightly sluggish and there is an annoying white box that sometimes appears briefly when closing applications but it's more than usable.

There is work going on to make a final release, but it will take a while
