SSB - Script For Creating Web Applications (download)

Post by mire000 »

SSB (site-specific browser) is a script meant to create web applications using existing application framework - Firefox.
SSB exclude menus, toolbars and browser associated functions that are not needed to work on a single site. Web apps (SSB's) are fully integrated into system, they acts as a real desktop applications. Such apps can be later started by a desktop icon which is created during installation, and it is usually favicon..

Similar application Pepermint "ICE" have problem with icon integration in the XFCE panel.
Workaround for this is to use "Firefox Nightly". So SSB comes with portable Firefox.

How to install:
*Download zip , unpack it somwhere and run "install.sh"

How to uninstall:
*Run "remove.sh"

Nice, thank you. I didn't know that linux mint team started to work on this. I started this script, because latest ICE application have problem with full icon integration (in XFCE icons doesn't appear on botom panel). So if this was fixed in WebApp Manager, than this is a great news :)

I tested Mint WebApp Manager, and they didn't resolve problem with icons. At least this doesn't work on XFCE.
You can see on picture below, that icons for web applications doesn't appear on panel below (instead they have firefox icon):

But my SSB script resolves this problem, and every web app have it's own icon on panel:
