Well, go ahead and revisit it then. What are your thoughts?

OK, my two cents:

there are some good comments already in this thread... but it died.

My vision of a Mint Wiki would be a general guide, primarily pointed to the droves of "new to Linux".
We need something that is mildly moderated and has some "blessing" from above (Mint Team ie credibility/official).

Community is good, however it is obscure and hard to search.
Forums are great, but hard to search and summarize, especially for a noob.

there is no need to duplicate the Debian wiki or the Arch wiki... (perhaps some links would work)

Maybe some folks could be inspired to lend a hand.

Since it would be 90% similar to the Ubuntu wiki, why not ask Canonical if they can open up a LinuxMint section in their own wiki?

Then we could just include info on how LM is different, then just link back to the relevant Ubuntu article for everything else. 8)

I have found it best if "noobs" start their own wiki on whatever subject (currently) interests them.
Currently, Dokuwiki is my current engine. All text...Yeah Baby!

You could install it locally, it's in the repos.
You could put it "on a stick", or a headless Virtualbox appliance (guest), or a ...
You have so many options, why are you relying on LinuxMint for permission?

"Authoritative" links are a huge issue, but when you maintain your own wiki
You decide what is "Authoritative" and what isn't. It is all yours, just like Linux{Mint}.

The OS is so easy to use, quite frankly, unless you are non-standard hardware, it's almost a "can't miss".
The rest is just user 'experience' and I got over that years ago.

Have at it.

If you could somehow link the wiki to a forum account and only allow people with a couple hundred posts here to contribute, that would raise the effort required for the would be saboteur.

hi All

Maybe crate your own wiki/ project list and as members learn more, the personal wiki get added to. I do this by creating office document adding index at the top and headers for projects ect, project 1, 2, 3 and so forth, header 1 for each project, web links are add with in paragraphs an detailed step are noted, all is costomised to each user. Other header ideas is to user headers from mint forum and work from there,

hope this help.

Some of the reasons for the success of Linux Mint are:

It works out of the box, with full multimedia support and is extremely easy to use.
It's both free of cost and open source.
It's community-driven. Users are encouraged to send feedback to the project so that their ideas can be used to improve Linux Mint.
