Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20.2
Upgraded this morning, everything done including rebooting in less than 5 minutes
I didn't get notified of the update through the Update Manager but through the Notifications and updated from there.

Flawless trouble free update, and seems a bit faster. Great work.

Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20.2: get info package 1.1.8
Following instructions in https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4111, and also Lineman Maul's comment/guidance, I switched from the default depository to University of Washington Math depository (fastest and local), was offered the upgrade to 1.1.8 mint-upgrade-info package, but the upgrade/update failed; messages seemed to indicate a login requirement to UW Math (this after successful Synaptics authentication). I'm wondering now how to point the Update Manager back to the default LinuxMint repository? When I close and restart Upgrade Manager it just shows the "A new version of the Update Manager is available" with the Apply the Update button, which just loops me back through without the updated version downloading.
Please help me re-direct Upgrade Manager to the default depository: command line??
Edit: here's the error message

RE ^^
I reverted to LM 20.1 using timeshift, rebooted, started over, and all went according to Clem's tutorial.
Thanks Clem; nice work!

Easy Peasy. I was a little wary at first because I was getting a depository error but when I actually paid attention I saw it was to do with Google Earth so I ignored it.
Agreed it seems a bit faster than before- this machine shipped with Windows Vista so yeah, every little bit helps. Looking forward to putting it in the rest of the machines. Especially the dog of an Emachine in my sig line.
Great work, y'all!
*edited to add naw, Emachine wound up with something different

Re: How to upgrade to Linux Mint 20.2
Well I tried to upgrade my ASRock homebrew system, and I borked it good. What forum should I post in, and what system info should I include? I got an APT error then things hung up- it was saying my info was out of date or something but since it was running synaptic it wouldn't update the repos when I tried to go back to refresh the software sources.
It boots and runs, but knocks my internet connection out every time I go to update and it commences to downloading the packages. I'm on Wifi- I can delete the connection and reconnect and it's back running and will happily remain online until such time as I try to run Update manager again. I had the presence of mind to run a Timeshift on it beforehand, and successfully rolled it back, but it still knocks me offline when I run the update manager. It'll start to download then drops my internet across the board. I can surf the net for as long as I want- as long as I don't run Update Manager. Soon as I do, it kills the internet- still shows me connected to the wifi network, just isn't accessing the internet.
Y'all think if I connected it to ethernet and let it update, it'd fix itself (assuming wired ethernet doesn't act wonky)?

Given the ambiguity of cause, I would post in the Beginner Questions category, and include the output ofRickyRaccoon wrote: What forum should I post in, and what system info should I include?

Sounds like a plan- next time I'm on that machine I'll do that.JoeFootball wrote: ⤴Fri Sep 03, 2021 7:19 amGiven the ambiguity of cause, I would post in the Beginner Questions category, and include the output ofRickyRaccoon wrote: What forum should I post in, and what system info should I include?inxi -Fxxxrz
