Something to think about:

No worries if you want to install the Linux Mint 20.3 BETA release in another partition on your computer; however,...

if you already have a customized, installed and working version of Linux Mint 20.2, then you'll probably want to delay upgrade until the "official" version of Linux Mint 20.3 becomes available via Update Manager; otherwise, you'll have to remember, then apply, all the customizations that you made to your 20.2 version.
You can use this tutorial to save your desktop customizations and then re-apply them at any time.

It works. Though some panel icons are not responsive until a logout/login cycle.
Thanks!

When the final release becomes available, will it be possible to jump across to xfce edition from cinnamon?

Not without a fresh install of the Xfce edition. Upgrades stay within their desktop environments.

Just upgrade the Cinnamon version to 20.3 and then install mint-meta-xfce using the Software Manager.

Mixing DE's will create a Frankenstein system (even though that problem isn't as big with Xfce as second DE). I don't recommend it.

I agree that adding additional DEs can sometimes cause problems. I've added Plasma on top of Cinnamon in the past and it doesn't work very well. But I always add Xfce to my Cinnamon install and have never had any problems.

Hey, itsubtuntu, you may want to put a qualifier in your message. The Linux Mint 20.3 (Cinnamon) download is not the "official release" version; it's a "beta" version!

Yes, the Linux Mint 20.3 (Cinnamon) release MAY be downloaded/installed; HOWEVER, the Linux folks are STILL TESTING this release.
Personally speaking, I'm going to wait until a STABLE, FULLY TESTED release becomes available.

the rounded corners in Nemo really turned me off in the cinnamon 20.3 beta release. hopefully it won't conflict with my themes. i do like the bigger close buttons but i'm sute they can be done without rounded corners. i wouldn't mind square buttons

Is upgrade from the BETA to stable release automatic or do I have to do something? There is nothing in the update manager to indicate there is an upgrade.

If you install Beta then update manager automatically takes you forward to the standard release. No user action required..

Man, I'm new to Linux and have things set up just how I like them already. I'm going to wait a bit to try it and hopefully no surprises by then.

From a previous post, I see that you're using LM 20.2. Please know it will continue to be supported until April 2025, so no rush to upgrade to 20.3 if you don't want to.
