Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!
Does anybody know if the problems with Atheros Communications Inc. AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter and other newer wireless cards have been solved? I remember reading somewhere that it had something to do with the Linux kernel in LM15.. It would be great if this problem had been solved!
Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!
The kernel version in Petra seems recent enough (3.11.0-12). Or you could try kernel 3.12 from http://packages.debian.org/experimental/kernel/FuKe wrote:Does anybody know if the problems with Atheros Communications Inc. Thank you! Great release can't go wrong with Cinnamon 2.0!Don_Pedro wrote:Lou, nice job with your video !
Now I am wondering if I should not switch from Mate to Cinnamon
Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!
I have problems after installing Petra also - can't access the repositories and backup tool can't recognise external drives as different to root?
Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!
Is it possible to install the RC and then just update to the final? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Same question than a week ago...
You can just make an upgrade if not a big issue has been corretected.
I said (I am not an expert) it is playable.
As far as we can see until today everything look stable.
Now it depends of your internet connection. If slow may be you can be patient couple of days and get the torrent.
To make a short story : Possible ? yes it is. Should we ? well, each one is a particular case, I would not recommand it.

Thank you for the reply. I'll give it a bit more thought before I decide whether or not to proceed

Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!
Problems that I found with Mint 15 and 16RC
GRUB INSTALL
I have a 128Gb SSD (sdb1 --> /) and a 2 TB HD (sda1 --> /boot, sda2 --> System boot windows, sda3 --> /Windows, sda4 --> /home)
installation went smooth (jfs for / & /home, ext4 for /boot) and grub installed on sda
reboot and grub went wrong, did not install properly , I have to boot with LiveDVD and follow the procedure to install grub, reboot and perform and update-grub to have the menu & win7 option
Something is wrong since BOTH versions have the same issue, BUT Pear Linux 8, OpenSuse 13.1, Debian 7.2 DID NOT have the problem and grub was install without an issue
by the way I changed the UEFI Secure Boot to OTHER OS
Please revise that.
UPDATE:
New fresh installation, using LVM replacing the existing OS, did not let me choose and use the entire 2TB
Grub boot OK no issues.
Therefore, the issue -AFAIK- is when you install in two HD (sdb / & sda for /boot & /home)
Will try another installation using sdb for /boot & / with grub /sda

Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!
Quick question about Mint 16.
Since gnome is somewhat a thing of the past, will I need to go thru the pain & nonsense that I had to when looking at Ubuntu 13.10, that is, to manage users and groups, I had to separately to get the tool to assign myself to the vboxuser group. It was painful.... Regardless, I'm just sticking with Mint for everyday usage and only play with some other distros for 'virtual' fun.
Great job...

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gnome-system-tools

Re: Linux Mint 16 "Petra" Cinnamon RC released!
I agree it is a very fine release. The only problem I had with it is that it will not connect to my bluetooth IHome speakers. I think this is a Linux problem as it seems everyone has this issue. Perhaps in the future Clem might look into this and get it working in LM. Other than that this is going to be an awesome release. I am already recommending it to friends and family.

Hello I read somewhere on this forum than Petra Cinnamon was a memory eater and put your system slow...
Well I checked again with my pendrive and openned 2 works area with Office calc, FF,Office writer,Banshee software manager etc about 10 packages and I would say
it's faster than Mate 15.
My basic configuration , bellow.
Thanks to the great job.

Hi guy's, this link http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/250 says Approved for Stable release. Does that mean it's the final?
