IMHO This is not a good piece of advice. While some settings can indeed break the behaviour of new versions, some folders should be kept! The most obvious ones are .firefox and .thunderbird, no need to lose all you emails and bookmarks! Generally it's a good idea to backup all settings folders, then make another backup of new ones and try using the old ones checking one by one if there are any problems.Old Marcus wrote: And in the live cd you would need to delete all config files and folders (the ones that are like '.filename') in order for the felicia settings to install correctly.

Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!
Congratulations to you and your team !
Simply the BEST Linux Release Candidate that I have ever tried - it puts a lot of formal releases to shame.
The bad news is that it's more firmly Ubuntu release based, but the good news is that your team have, as usual, done a better job than the Ubuntu team in making it work !
The only big niggle was that, like Ubuntu 8.10 it 'hanged' for about four minutes on ShutDown or ReStart, but the lazarusrat patch has fixed that for my rigs, allowing me to install all my old favourites through 'Package Manager' (Synaptic), including the new, very much improved graphical interface VLC Player (ie vlc + dependencies).

Lovely! I'm re-installing Elyssa though (someone didn't like to be hacked, lol)
I had Felicia's ISO downloaded and lost it
Will it be able to update Elyssa? Or should I have one partition with Elyssa and another with Felicia?
Regards and cheers for the goodwork.
Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!
Hi all,
Clem:
Linux Mint Gnome Main Edition 6 "Felicia" RC1
I installed it and have performed all system updates
1- mintMenu (a mess) sorry for the rude word.
Part in English - part in Portuguese
(there is a translation of mintMenu for Brazilian Portuguese)
(forum thread - translations)
2 - mintNanny
(all in English) only two words in Portuguese
add - adicionar
remove - remover
There is a translation of mintNanny for Brazilian Portuguese
(forum thread - translations)
These two above need to be fixed (language) Brazilian Portuguese.
---------------------------------------------------------
3- mintinstall
When opened it for the first time, it only showed all apllications
After refreshing mintInstall all categories and sub-categories
are shown.
4 - mintUpload
I've tried to upload a file several times and the service fails.
a small image for instance -.jpg (nautilus-actions are installed) 1.4.1
Service ready - available space -ok
Message: upload failed - operation not permited
55020081118022435 -error
Perhaps server is overloaded (down for a while) - i don't know
It's enough so far. I will go on checking things
BTW - this post above - good story is posted in a wrong place or ...spam
Cheers
Roberto

Now someone correct me if I'm wrong but even if your using Synaptic, Adept, or one of the other many pkg mgrs in Linux.
Isn't it best to always refresh them when you go to use them, Mainly if it's been a day or so since you used them.
Now that's just IMHO.... Many prob disgaree....
Yes, you are right. I helped to test mintInstall and i had forgotten this detail. Please, forget about my mistake.
Another problem detected here (minor one). The screensaver doesn't disappear with mouse movements.
The way out to come back to my desktop is to press the key "Esc" (keyboard) .
Thanks

Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!
hello
I've installed mint 6 on old laptop (Duron 1 ghz, 384 RAM, Savage), and i think I've found strange BUG. When I choose in GRUB standard run options (grub start, I'm pressing enter key and linux starts) desktop won't show, byt when I delete splash option and put vga=791 (which gives 1024x768 vesa resolution) every thing works properly.
I never use splash, so this is not error for me.
Thanks for all your job.

When I run amule, it fails to connect to servers saying, "You have a lowid." I never had this problem before with Elyssa. I still have Elyssa on another partition and aMule works without changes. Any idea, what changes I would have to make to network settings to get it to work? Amules site says it uses port 4662. I don't know how to check if this port is blocked, or how to make it so only amule can use this port if it is a risk to open it.
The error message is below:

I will try that, but I wonder why that is necessary with Felicia and not with Elyssa. Roadmap for Felicia XFCE
Is there a roadmap for the coordination of XFCE-releases?
Cannot find it anywhere...
Which tasks are there for the XFCE-release?
Where is help needed?
How to offer help for the packaging?

Translate as many XFCE-apps as you can!
The XFCE is my favourite edition as well.
But let it take it's time LM 5 XFCE is working great on my machine, so I have no rush.

Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!
The only thing I don't like is the lack of the screens and graphics gui tool. I think the Ubuntu team made a big mistake in removing it and not providing a replacement for it.
Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!
Further congratulations to Clem and his team. This pre-release version is far better than many formal releases.
I applied the new Software Manager Refresh straight after hard drive installation and am impressed by the graphical repository browse capability and Graphics, Agave looks as though it will confer easy colours customization, so vital for different colour perception preference that can influence acceptance.
Then applied the Ubuntu 8.10 team's #274995 Lazurusrat/Robb Topolski patch to prevent four minute 'hangs' on ShutDown and Restart and it's now performing better than the last really stable Ubuntu 7.10/Mint4 releases, with great multi-tasking when using several simultaneous workspaces.
I love the way that 'Print to PDF' Ubuntu 8.10 problems have been side-stepped, but I still miss Mint4's ACIDrip x264 capability that was lost with the release of Mint5.
I don't know what it's like on one of the new 'netbooks' but it' has already become my distro of choice for everyday Core2 desktop use, whilst I am still using Mint4 on my three year old Dothan laptop.
Bottom line, I think that Mint6 could become THE ONE to achieve a desktop acceptance Linux breakthrough.

Re: Linux Mint 6 "Felicia" RC1 released!
hi,
I just bought 25 new core 2 duo desktop for our schools' computer lab. I'm still undecided if i should go with linuxmint. I'm currently using mint5 for my personal desktop. Is there an upgrade from RCx to final release?
So far, I tested dual-booting winxp / linuxmint 6RC1 and it's working very well. If I get a confirmation of upgrade from RC1to final release, I will use this machine to clone it to the other 24 PCs.
Nice distro.
Edward
