Samba version 2:4.3.8+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.2 bugs [SOLVED]

Post by xenopeek » Sun Apr 24, 2016 3:10 am

Update: an update to version 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 is available and should fix the regressions according to http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-2950-2/

Last Monday an upgrade to fix Samba vulnerabilities was released: USN-2950-1: Samba vulnerabilities. This shows up as upgrade samba 2:4.3.8+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.2 in Update Manager. A lot of users, both on Linux Mint and Ubuntu, are reporting this upgrade is breaking functionality: Lost networking to windows after Samba updates 4-18-2016. If you have already upgraded and are encountering issues, see my comment in that topic with some possible workarounds till the bugs introduced with version 4.3.8 are fixed.

If nonpassworded Windows shares is not accessable without typing username and/or password then just type anything. "1"/"1" is good choice :D
It's worked for me.
Windows assumes I'm stupid but Linux demands proof of it

Just an FYI: Samba released 4.3.9 today :
This release fixes some regressions introduced by the last security fixes.
Of particular interest to many here is this bug has been addressed:
* BUG 11841: Fix NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED when accessing Windows public share.
I don't know how long it will take for things to filter down to Ubuntu / Mint and placed in it's repositories so that it can be safely updated.

It fixed the only issue I had 4.3.8 which was the ability to access a Linux samba server as guest from OSX: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1572301
