Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
There is no MD5 sum published. Read in the linked blog the paragraph about the checks.
Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
The main page at linuxmint.com still refers to both as "This is the BETA release for...", although the text at the announcements themselves do not, once clicked on. Just thought I'd bring that up.
Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
This is a known problem with the cache. Correction is on the way.
Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
I'm confused on how to do the checks described in the blog. If someone could be kind enough to show me how?Cosmo. wrote:There is no MD5 sum published. Read in the linked blog the paragraph about the checks.
How do you import the signing key from a Keyserver? How do you verify its fingerprint with the following command? gpg --list-keys --with-fingerprint.
Never done this before so any help would be much appreciated.
Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
Did you follow the link in the said paragraph?

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
ok I think I did this right
I put in Terminal
Output:

Matches with this in the sha256sum.txt file

It that the correct way to do it?

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
Exactly as in the article described. At first you import the key, than you list the keys with displaying the fingerprint and compare the resulting fingerprint with the fingerprint given at the page. I just verified, that it works as described.gary.zw wrote:How do you import the signing key from a Keyserver?
How do you verify its fingerprint with the following command? gpg --list-keys --with-fingerprint?
Even shorter: Importing with the recv-key option, verifying with the list-keys and with-fingerprint options.

I think we could use a page like this on the Mint forums site. Maybe a tutorial... Or perhaps clarify the current page describing the process.Cosmo. wrote:Exactly as in the article described. Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
How do I do an upgrade from 17.3 so I keep current settings, printers and everything I've installed to date?

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
An update path will come - but later.
Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
There will be a way to update to 18 from the Update Manager, but it hasn't been released yet. Probably be a couple of weeks from what I hear, but who knows?AndyMH wrote:How do I do an upgrade from 17.3 so I keep current settings, printers and everything I've installed to date?

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
I readClem said in about 1 month you could update to 18 from the Update Manager.

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!
Another matter is: is it wise to upgrade in-place from 17.x to 18 at all ("überhaupt")?jimallyn wrote:There will be a way to update to 18 from the Update Manager, but it hasn't been released yet.
Personally, I doubt it. The leap from the Ubuntu 14.04 codebase to the Ubuntu 16.04 codebase is huge. Too much so, I think. I advise to do a clean installation of 18.
