I feel LMDE Mate runs faster. Maybe not much faster, but definitely not slower. I have installed it in 32 bit on Asus Eee machines, no issues at all.

I share those sentiments regarding Maya. What a historic distro though--and there are still many fans.
Though I tinkered with earlier releases, I was using Maya when I realized I didn't need the other os---yeah!

It was Maya that convinced me to delete all my NTFS partitions.
