As usual when I install Linux Mint, I like what I see. Very good work. Have not used it yet but so far all good.

There is still no support for Creative soundblaster Z pci card!
But you can not hear 5.1 or 7.1 dolby in any browser, so you have to go into Windows10 in an app to get this done.

But one thing must be remembered; html5 or flash does not support 5.1 dolby soround. To watch movies with 5.1 or 7.1 dolby soround, watch the movie in an app, something you can not do in Linux, but with android and winwows10. Frustrating? yes I know.

But one plus is on the sound side; Now I have audio when I select HDMI in audio settings. That means I can use Mint on this computer too.

I am testing 18.3 on a Dell 13 5000 2 in 1 laptop. These are the devices that can hinge fully over to a tablet mode.
Touch screen works pretty well for point and select / launch
When in tablet mode the physical keyboard is not responsive - which is correct
The onscreen keyboard does not appear automatically when text required in tablet mode
Touchpad NOT ignored when typing - lots of typo's as a result
Most apps scroll with touch gesture when in tablet mode - except for web browsers
Other gestures do not work - pinch for example
With Ubuntu 17.10 the screen rotates automatically but not with Mint
None-the less - pretty impressive for a beta overall
Timeshift is awsome - and I used it to roll back from the latest 3.6.4 cinnamon update which stopped system settings from working
Redshift - brilliant
New software Manager - great improvement but some Flatpaks not installing
Online accounts - some not working and Google - incredibly slow - found the same with Ubuntu 17.10

For a newbie like me Mint Cinnamon / Mate are fantastic systems to get to grips with Linux and thank you so much to all of the developers who continue to add and improve features.

I installed Mint 18.3 BETA on my System76 Pangolin laptop a couple of days ago and have had zero problems. It's a good stable release from my perspective. Congratulations to all who contributed to the release! :D

With Ubuntu 17.10 the screen rotates automatically but not with Mint
This setting is disabled by default in Cinnamon settings->General. It causes issues on some machines where it shouldn't rotate. I have a HiDPI HP laptop which must share the same screen with other models that allow flipping the screen over. With that setting on the screen flips upside down every time you shake the machine a little. You have to shake it again to get it back :)

It was disabled by default so this one come up when trying to do an install. I get the same issue on Ubuntu and it's a PITA.
When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.

If 18.3 is anything like 17.3 was, I'll be very very happy :D

Hi. The website lists the following sha256sum for the Download which I just completed:

Code: Select all

428d47c5ce54e949b0ba656a2c387d4536b9e0530bcc840784b456190411f11c *linuxmint-18.3-mate-32bit.iso
But I have downloaded from two mirrors AND verified using a Torrent Client, my versions match the Torrent checksums and yield this value instead:

Code: Select all

d3e8d2117a169d10b35549f6703b30b041b56a13c53897e0a1e493e1a63b4f21
Perhaps the checksum file (linked from the web page) needs to be updated?
Please advise. Thanks in advance!

The first checksum is the correct checksum of the final edition (not of the bèta).
