Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
Got the Upgrade to Sylvia in my Update Manager today. Everything went smoothly. Well done team.
Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
When will XFCE 18.3 be available?
Cinnamon is nice, but I go for max performance so I like XFCE. I'm converting a lot of customers from Vista and I use older converted PCs myself.

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
Quick question:
I want to use Aptik to save all my settings and installs of Mint 18.2 *KDE* and then fresh install to MINT 18.3 Cinnamon (IOW, change from KDE to Cinnamon). Will I run into problems with Aptik restoring my stuff?

I've been using Mint for over 4 years, but I'm still a slow learner. I have a website: https://pickfetish.com. It is dedicated to guitar/instrument picks.

Please start a new thread for your question in a more fitting section of the forum, 'Releases & Announcements' is not a good place for support. Thanks!wutsinterweb wrote:Quick question:

Oh I see, thanks. I thought I had discovered some deep dark secret.....Moem wrote:That's exactly how it should go and how Clem announced that it would go. Nice and easy, isn't it.Teksonik wrote:I had to manually chose to update from the Edit drop down menu in the Update Manager. There was an option to "Update to Sylvia".
Yes it was very easy but if I had not thought to check the drop down menu would I have just been clicking "Refresh" over and over and never gotten the update ?
Still learning Mint.....much to learn. But I see there is an update to Firefox waiting so I'm off to install that. Hopefully it will sort out the "double right click " issue.....
EDIT: No, the update did not address the right click issue.
Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
Yup! That's why users are encouraged (by the welcome screen, among other things) to keep an eye on the Mint Blog. New releases are always announced there, complete with upgrade instructions.Teksonik wrote:I had not thought to check the drop down menu would I have just been clicking "Refresh" over and over and never gotten the update ?

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
Your assumption is correct. The hint for a beta version is in the file name of the download - but even that is not so important, because after updating the system you get the current release. Indeed, if you use the iso-file for investigating into the live system before installing, the beta version will surely include bugs, which are fixed in the final release.
Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
Hey early Christmas for everyone, running 18.3 after updating, love every thing about it. great work from the team and thanks
Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
Hello everyone,
Is this the proper thread to give feedback on 18.3 Cinnamon or shall I create a new thread called "18.3 Cinnamon user feedback"?
Thank you!

Am I missing something? I did the update, and I expected something new and wonderful, but I see no difference?

Many incremental improvements and bug fixes, plus some nifty new tools. As you've apparently upgraded from an older version, you might need to install those tools. I recommend these two:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install redshift-gtk timeshift

hm per Pjotr I ran
sudo apt-get install redshift-gtk timeshift
here's how that ended... not sure what's wrong...

If not, just delete those cache files and try it again.

vliscony, Wine works fine here.

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon released!
OK, that makes me think maybe I should uninstall and reinstall for my wine did not "disappear" in the upgrade, so it seemed like I did not have to reinstall it, but my one application I run in Wine, will not run anymore... so it looks like the older wine hung around and I have to uninstall and reinstall.
