Type

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep microcode
to check is it really updated for your CPU
I have unckecked the "always show kenel updates"
It is very important! If new kernel just shown then somebody certainly mark it for installattion without thinking.
Until the next crisis appears, I am sticking to 4.4.0-108-generic (Mint 18.1) kernel :)
Crisis is far from disappearing.
Package manager says its updated but the command says

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep microcode

It means your CPU microcode is same as it was before.

Don't believe blindly in everything, what you read. I commented this already yesterday.

To check, whether all, what is at now available for fixing, is installed, is very easy in Mint: Make in the update manager all level 1 to 5 (for Mint until 18.1) respectively 1 to 4 (for Mint 18.2 and above) visible, also security and kernel updates (possibly reachable in the options page of the preferences, dependent from the version of Mint). Make also sure, that you did not set an update on the exclusion list. Do a refresh on the update manager. Note, that more fixes are expected in the future, but what does not exist at now cannot get installed at now.

Interesting, i3-2350M is not (currently) listed.

Hello.I am an absolute beginner.I am very confused. The information is contradictory. I have Rosa 17.3 and I do not know exactly how to make the PC safe. How did you upgrade the kernel? The 3.19.0-32 kernel is currently loaded on my pc. Among those available for update there is no 4.4.0-109 kernel (the last one iso 4.4.0-098).
But there is a level 5 update to 4.4.0lts1 (only 1kb). What should I do?

giorgio33, press the refresh button in Update Manager and see if it finds newer kernels then. Double check the kernels in the list as the 4.4.0-100 might be at the top of the list

I refreshed, but the situation has not changed. I noticed, however, that there are some old level 3 security updates not applied. Do I have to install these first?
Tks!

You might want to check that list again; I forgot the details but it's in a different sort order than you might expect.

Moem is correct, I just checked on my Mint 17 laptop and the 4.4.0-109 was listed just above 4.4.0-21 and was the fifth 4.4.0 kernel in the list

I'm on Mint 17.3 and Cinnamon 2.8.8 (64-bit) on an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Processor with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 video card driving dual monitors. When I applied the kernel update, I got the "Cinnamon just crashed" error, and only had 1 monitor operating. I managed (eventually) to revert to my previous kernel. What do I do now ?

Incidentally, what's the best way to edit Grub these days ? Last time I did it (a long time ago) it was a flat file...

Okay, time to close this thread. It's not meant to discuss the issues or ask for help, it's an announcement. There are plenty of open threads, so please use one of those. Or if your question is not about Meltdown or Spectre, start a new thread in the forum that fits best.

As it reads above, in red letters: Please do not add support questions to threads here, use the appropriate support forum instead.
