I get it! My present computer was $150 (Amazon refurb unit) when I bought it.

@clem

Regarding your comments out the Realtek HD Audio. I think Ubuntu made a change somewhere but I can't find it to the power_save default. They now use a blacklist for the systems they know are producing the noises.

Fedora went through this a couple of years ago as evidenced by this thread.

I don't know if the new sof audio driver will have any impact on this issue when it replaces snd-hda-intel.

As for getting output from both front and rear jacks, it may be possible with some edits in /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths. Or even disabling Auto-Mute Mode in alsamixer might do it if it exists. I don't know how much you know about sound stuff, but feel free to send me a message if you want to explore any of that. I'd be interested to see the output of this either way:

Code: Select all

curl https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/raw/master/src/utils/pa-info?inline=false | bash | nc termbin.com 9999
EDIT: I did find the addition of the power_save blacklist here:
ALSA: hda: Add a power_save blacklist
And found the revert for the default here:

Code: Select all

It is very much a unique and boutique machine. I've never had anything like it. I will say it's the fastest thing I've ever owned. And the fanless design is totally new to me. I really do like it.
When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.

It looks pretty sweet but yeah. I just built little computer from a kit (add SSD and memory) that cost 1/10th as much.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
