Celena BETA 021 is out!

Post by clem » Tue Sep 18, 2007 4:29 am

Hi,

The second BETA for Celena is out! Many thanks to all the people who tested the first one and posted about bugs. We've fixed many of them in BETA 021 and we hope you test it as well as you did the first BETA.

Thanks to whoever is seeding the torrent. I'm not suffering from usual "not enough seeders" syndrome like during the first hours of most Mint torrents. :D

Edit: Its gone from 150kbs to 20 :(

It's possible but there's no point to it. The point of the BETA release is for it to get tested by the community. There will however be upgrade paths from BETA 017 to stable and from BETA 012 to stable.

Thanks for the reply. The only bad experience that I've got with beta017 is the grub splash screen... so I'll probably wait until the full 3.1 then. :)

I just gotta say that really like Mint! The Mint team is doing a great job!

EDIT: I've solved the splash error, thanks clem!

I've not experienced any bugs with Celena myself apart from not being able to open Hardware Information, but that was the case with Cassandra as well. I'm holding out for Daryna.

I just replaced Cassandra XFCE edition with the Celena beta 017 and it feels much snappier on my older laptop :D I think I'll wait for stable though.

I love the optimized release, but can someone tell a newb how to increase the screen resolution? I've tried upgrading packages and used Envy, but no luck.

Thanks!

Hey Clem,

Excellent release.. I've been experimenting with it on my old PC and ran into two problems:
Firstly, when installing mint the first time, when it was downloading language packs I clicked "skip" (seeing as I only wanted the English and assumed those packs were for other languages to allow for switching). This made the installer get stuck and the progress bar didn't move for 20 minutes till I gave up and tried again. This time the entire installation took about 20 minutes and all went well.

My second problem involves sound. At first, sound played fine through my old SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 but as soon as I installed the NVIDIA drivers through envy (which went smoothly), no sound would work. I doubt this is a mint-specific issue and, if I think back, I've had sound trouble on previous linux installations even though at that point I didn't see the link between the video drivers and sound disappearing.

Thanks for an excellent product Clem & co. Great artwork Agus.

Congratulations to the team! Agust's artwork is very impressive.
I have been testing Celena live CD. It's great work. No major bugs to report. :D

Great beta

I had the dreaded WHITE screen when trying to use Beryl - nvidia card and GEFORCE graphics card - but the ENVY fix and installation of the new driver worked a treat.

Waiting for 3.1 proper now. I want to relegate my windoze to back seat and enjoy Linux at last!

Great Distro Clem.
