Wow that is a sexy new homepage. Love it and it is infinitely better than Ubuntu's.

Nice and typical Mint-styled, smooth colored home page.
I tried-out a lot of good linux distro's, but at the end Linux Mint
is always a little better !! Thanks to all Linux Mint lovers. :D

One other small thing, I noticed that you have the links in the community section set to open in a new window.
I can understand the thinking behind this but I for one find it a bit annoying

I totally love the redesign, I've been waiting for it for a long time now.

But why does it take SO long to load?

The news headlines on the home page need more content and where appropriate hyperlinks to other parts of the site. I know you will tell me its a work in progress and Rome wasnt built in a day but lets be honest there's no excuse not for having a hyper link to the beta in a news posting announcing the beta! At best its annoying at worst its gunna put people off from downloading it. A hyper link takes what? 5 seconds if that?

Does it??
Do you have a dial up modem?
The images, and perhaps mostly the screenshots, may be a burden in such a case
@ belovedmonster
I have asked Clem to fix a link from the beta announcement.
But I think he has taken some time off now that the beta is published. He is the only one that can do this I'm afraid.... I only control the wiki :)
I was also confused.

It is beautiful but I have three observations:

1. Everything is too tight in the middle, it is sweltering. It should be used more of the space available.

2. It is a pity that the different shades of green are used only to top. (I speak green stripes while top) Why not on the entire page? In addition it would defuse the light green background that I find it a bit "aggressive". Maybe a little darker...

3. I think the logo is too jammed at the top. Maybe if we drop a little the rest, that would provide it some fresh air.
One can also imagine to mark the name 'Linux Mint' wholesale to top on a large part of the page width and the logo itself somewhere in other places, for instance smaller on the side under the name, or on one side under the dark green stripe...

:D :D :D

I think it's d00p, the sysadm of the site, that has done it
Clem has been "invisible" a while - he deserves it!

thank you all!

Thank you all for your praise and your feedback. Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I've been very busy. So let me see if I can address some questions and comments from this thread. Also as a side note, this was a collaboration between Clem and myself. SO there where some compromises made.

@ W8DIZ Sure it seems like its harder to navigate compared the these previous navigation. (which is still vieable in the forum). But we have a lot more links now and they are sectioned off in a logical manner. Alot of the links we have on the main site are even listed in the forum. Compared to a simple list of links anything would seem more complex.

@ belovedmonster Torrent links should be listed on the download page. This has been mentioned to Clem and he will be adding it soon.

Links on the announcements, I think this was an oversight on Clem's part and it has been corrected. No worries the future looks bright for links  As for more content on the announcements, well maybe we need a content manager that wouldn't mind writing up alot of stuff, anybody up for the challenge?

@ sourwire The site is a bit image heavy, so depending on your connection it can take longer. Also depending on server load it can take some time to serve the page. There are too many variables to give you a proper answer to this question. That being said there will be a version of the site which hasn't been made just yet, that will not use images and will be much more
accessible and high contrast.

@ linuxviolin
1. site was created to fit on 1024px resolution. its a fixed width design. I have a higher res monitor myself, so yes it would have been nice to use more of the screen realestate, but unfortunately not everybody has large monitors.

2. Some of those colors are used in other places. But your feedback is a personal preference so can really give a better response.

3. Not sure I follow you on this. But one thing that can be said, is that the logo is a bit far to the right now. But mainly it is there for when people increase the browser font size. There are many people who do this, myself included.

Again thanks everybody! I really appreciate the support and the feedback which only helps us get better. There is still much to do, but this is only the beginning. :D

Cheers!

I write for a living (despite what my spelling and grammar suggests) so I would put my name forward, but realistically I don't think I've got time to take anything else on at the moment. So instead I'll have to keep to my current job as official mint website moaner

I look forward to moaning about the redesign of the software portal

I just noticed...

For me least...the rectangle around the Donate, Participate, Download graphics doesn't quite match the colour of dark strip across the top. If you look carefully you can see it doesn't match.

I cant see any reason why the graphics shouldn't match up perfectly with the colour of the bar when you are not hovered over them.

Carlos?
