anyone else get skype working?

The latest version of skype for linux just came out, i.e., skype 4.0.

http://skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/o ... ter/linux/
-> download

I'm still using L.M. LXDE 10 because I only have 4G space on this 701 eee laptop. {Probably will change distro.]
I downloaded skype-ubuntu_4.0.0.7-1_386.deb and used sudo dpkg to install it. When I run skype, a window pops
up asking for username & password. When I type them, nothing shows. But after I type them, the username and
******** show and login me in. Similiar problem occurs when I try to change option. E.g., I tried to change the
video option. I click various options and nothing shows. I can't "see" what I am doing.

Is this problem due to an old version of L.M.LXDE or something else?

Can others try to install the latest skype and see what happens?

Brw, the machine specs are at

you can get lxde 12 to install on a netbook with less than 4GB space by inserting a USB thumb drive to fool the partitioner into thinking there is more space. The installation won't go on it and you don't actually need more than 4Gb:

I know I can, but I rather not. I'm already thinking of moving to antiX when their final release is out.

What do you mean when you say "nothing shows?" Some versions of skype come with white font on a white background. To change, go into skype options and change "Style" in the "General" category to something other than "Cleanlooks".

Nope, that wasn't the problem either. It was on desktop setting. I tried window, motif, cde + quit skype + login skype. No success. It's missing a libarary or something.
I posted in the skype forum too - no answer. I can't use skype as it is. Too many missing texts. Will wait until I change distro unless someone else have an idea.

Hi Sheng-Chieh,
I saw this tutorial: http://www.noobslab.com/2012/06/install ... -mint.html and noticed they also installed the library: libxss1

Maybe adding that will help you out.
