Afterstep installed - How do I activate/use/select it?

Post by Antagonist »

I have installed Afterstep on my shiney new LM17.1 (Mate ed.) system and haven't yet worked out how to 'activate' it or select it to run.

Have tried the 'log out and select from the list on login screen' thing but Afterstep doesn't appear on the list. The only items on that list are "MATE", "Last session", and, something about running a script. Selecting the script gives the same as if "MATE" or "Last session" had been selected.

I note that a similar question has been asked, but not answered, on this forum more than four (4) years ago.

Maybe I'll have better luck ... who knows? :-|

The last release was a year and a half ago, and it doesn't appear that there is any current development going on. It looks like it is a dead-end project.

Having checked out the Afterstep web site beforehand it looked worth trying out. I was also aware of the last release being 18 months ago. Also, given that it is in the repositories I figured it would be pretty straight forward to install and take for a test drive. Apparantly, I was mistaken. :(

I too am looking for a way to have Afterstep show up in the sessions menu. I did find something of a workaround. If you install fluxbox from the repositories and start a fluxbox session you can go into the Windowmanager menu of fluxbox and select Afterstep. This will launch Afterstep. It takes a while to load the first time, but is quite fast after that.

If I find out anything more I'll post here.
