mint 17.3 Dell Inspiron N5110 screen flutter

Post by dougahole »

I installed M17.3 and since that time there is constant screen flutter. Intel second generation core processor. I do not know what other information that I could provide to make this simpler. This was not a side by side install with windows. I am not a tech savy guy so if any help, please make it as simple as possible with no acronyms or expectations that I already know a lot of computer functions. Thanks

Can you clarify "screen flutter?"

You posted in the "Others" area, which tells us that you aren't using one of Mint's "stock" DEs (Xfce, Cinnamon, MATE, KDE). Which one ARE you using?

Is your graphics driver properly configured?

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window fullscreen, in order to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal (copy/paste can be done with your mouse):

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
if you type: the letter F is a capital letter

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Might be a driver issue. Try the easy generic solutions:

a. Install the latest kernel from the 3.19 series:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... el-updates
(item 3, right column)

Then reboot.

b. When no improvement: install the latest kernel from the 4.2 series.

Then reboot.

c. When still no improvement: check for a newer BIOS / UEFI and when available, install it.
