What desktop environment is this....

Post by borg101 »

Would anyone mind viewing the video below and telling me what DE this person is using? It looks like Gnome3 but different than I've seen implemented in Ubuntu 17.10. Would Gnome3 look like this on top of Mint? Thank you in advance.

This is Ubuntu 17.10 with
- a normal Gnome session (not an Ubuntu session, see http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/10/inst ... untu-17-10)
- the Dash to Panel extension added (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ ... -to-panel/)
- and the La Capitaine icon theme (https://krourke.org/projects/art/la-cap ... icon-theme)

Linux Mint 18.x have Gnome 3.18 in the repositories which will look and work a bit different. Linux Mint 19 will have the same Gnome version as Ubuntu 17.10 (because Ubuntu 18.04 on which Linux Mint 19 will be based keeps the same Gnome version as Ubuntu 17.10) and so if you were to install Gnome on Linux Mint 19 you should be able to make it look exactly like that.

Thanks for that. So it probably won't work correctly on Mint 18.3?

on mint there is an older version of gnome shell, unlike ubuntu 17.10 , however, i have install it with

Code: Select all

sudo apt install gnome-shell gnome-session gnome-tweak-tool gnome-control-center nautilus
and then logout/login and I select GNOME session

Thanks for that. I'll have to try it later tonight after work.

Worked like a charm! Thanks for the update. I love gnome because it makes tweaking the UI incredibly simple. There's basically an extension for everything.
