I've just tested lubuntu and got my whole system up and running, until I ran upon the dropping network bug that they still haven't solved.
I'm going all in on mint, have been running Cinnamon for a while without any issues.
I'm only going to use this mint as server, and only really need the desktop for webb-based verifications.
Otherwise I'm comfortable with iptables and running the server from the terminal.
Now, my question.
Is the CORE of these different versions the same?
I mean is the drivers for network, python, iptables, ssh, all that, the same stuff regardless desktop environment?
Is the kernel, security, the core updated simultaneously?
Because In that case, I only need the most lightweight one that support a browser.
I've read a few text regarding the difference, but no one mentions the core...
Is the basic core of mint different depending on desktop?

Re: Is the basic core of mint different depending on desktop?
Linux Mint 19.x all use Ubuntu Bionic repositories as a package base. That's where kernel, python, iptables, ssh all that comes from. The desktop environments, Mint tools, X-apps and other software developed and/or packaged by Linux Mint come from the Linux Mint repositories and differ by Linux Mint release. You can see everything Linux Mint adds here: http://packages.linuxmint.com/
So you could go for Linux Mint 19.x Xfce as the most lightweight.
