In June, the focus will shift towards LMDE which will receive the Mint 11 features, and for which we’re also planning specific improvements (particularly on the installer and the update manager), as well as the KDE and LXDE editions.

I don't know if it's going to be Mint 11 LXDE (Ubuntu based) or Mint LXDE (Debian based).

So will it be about a month or two before the next LXDE version?

I think so, but don't yet know whether that will be Debian or Ubuntu-based. I hope that it's Ubuntu but I seem to read from nunol's quote that it will be Debian.
Anyway, I can also use Lubuntu or Wattos on computers that don't have enough RAM for Mint 11 Gnome. Or use a Debian-based distro (though I prefer Ubuntu).

I think it's Ubuntu based as the LXDE testing ISO has mint4win: http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/reports/74/11

Indeed, it's Ubuntu.

Looking at the testing website it looks like there will be a Release Candidate soon!

You are certainly not the only one. Me too I'm keeping myself very awake.
I use Gnome 2 daily and with great pleasure in LMDE, Mint (Ubuntu), Pclos. And I'm not happy with developements
Gnome 3 and Unity...
I've seen a lot of Linux-tastes lately in search of possible alternatives. Thank God there are. 8)

My list could become: Xfce, KDE/Xfce, Enlightenment (not really), Fluxbox, Lxde for instance.
A pity is: also Xfce is in a way interdependent of Gnome-software I'm afraid.
But Lxde is way not complete (yet) and unstable in some distro's in my opinion.

Xfce indeed uses GTK2. And Gnome is switching to GTK3.
By the way, LXDE also uses GTK.

There is also something with Qt and Nokia. I don't know exactly.
Nokia not supporting Qt anymore or something like it.

It's becoming a web en distro's full of obstacles for some time.

LXDE is also porting everything to GTK3 right now. I expect there to be some bumps in the road, but early testing indicates things are going well.

One thing about LXDE is that when it's properly configured using the right combination of applications: it's pretty rock solid nowadays. There are still some file manager bugs, but nothing like the endless stream of segfaults that plagued everything a couple of years ago. It's not perfect and is certainly a little more finicky about what hardware it's on versus some other desktops, but it's now very much a viable option. I'm fortunate in that Mint 11 marks the seventh major release of distros that I've built with LXDE so I'm feeling pretty confident that the default configuration should be pretty solid.

Thanks for all your hard work Kendall. I have Mint 10 LXDE on one of my computers at home and it is great.

I'm going to download and install again on a partition (after Lxde with Mint 9 now Mint 11).

And so I did.

Lxde looks very stable, but I see not much software and still a tiny number of applets.
Installation was not smooth, it substituted my MBR (which is for a lot of ext4/Grub2-reasons a
PCLOS-one for 5 partitions ext3/Grub1) for its own. Could be I missed a switch somewhere in the
installation-proces. Any way that has changed for the bad in Mint.
So I got the Mint-bootloader and PCLOS could not start normal speed again from that Mint
bootloader.

Wrote PCLOS back from backup and re-did the PCLOS-bootloader and all is right now.
But: not very smooth this Mint-install.

Lxde has further not changed much. You can't do a lot with it unless you install quite a number of apps,
but when one searches a substitute in possibly difficult times in future or now... Lxde could be value. :?
(The 'a little less light'-Xfce is more 'mature' I think. I also have it in Mint on a partition and with a little effort I
can work 'quite well' with it (I normally do my work with Mint LMDE Gnome/KDE. That is very nice.
I like Mint very much. I also have Mint Isadora LTS productive.
But when the are going to be 'busy' with Gnome like with KDE some years back.... what then?!))

(Question: is it possible to switch off Lxde-desktop-backgrounds? I did not find it yet.
And a remark not concerning Lxde: the 'elegance' of Mint looks a little deminished in version 11.
But that could be a matter of taste of course.)

I leave Lxde on the partition for the time being, so I can try all things I can understand with it. :D
