No Gnome Shell Extension nor Gnome 3 / MGSE anywhere?

Post by spartan.pk » Fri Jan 13, 2012 4:41 pm

Hi All,
I'm new to Linux and I have tried using Ubuntu 11.10, Open Suse 11.4 and now installed Linux Mint Liza 12. I have some issues which I'm unable to identify either.

I updated my Linux Mint 12 and then I see a lot of Things here and there on Forums,in tutorials for Gnome 3 / MGSE Panels and Usage with Shell Extensions. But When I went to see the Advanced Settings Window there is nothing like this.

The Shell Extension Tab has nothing in it. Also on the Themes Tab there is no Shell Theme there. Except some default for icons, windows that shipped with this release. I hear a lot of things and saw too about Gnome 3 and that is why I came to Linux On my Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64 Bit with Vmware Player installed with Linux Mint 12(Lisa).

I searched about a lot on internet but could not found any solution or discussion about it. People looks to have a lot more shiny and Mac style Gnome 3 versions and why my latest Linux Mint is not Like as it is here http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/685.

Please help me to fix this issue.

Below are the Screenshots of what is on my system.

The reason you're not seeing the GNOME Shell extensions is because you're not running GNOME Shell, you're dropping into Fallback Mode. It could be that your graphics driver doesn't support 3D acceleration, which is required by GNOME Shell and Mutter in order for them to work.

Unfortunately I don't really know how to fix graphics-related issues, but it would be helpful to anyone who knows how to for you to post what graphics card your computer is equipped with and whether you're using the open-source driver or the closed-source proprietary driver for your card. I believe if you run the following command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -G
You should get a few lines of information about your graphics card and such you can post here to inform anyone of what the situation is.

@remoulder Hi Sorry For the Double Post I did not realize that there was a Section of Gnome3. Please accept my Apologies for that.

@ karashata I used inxi -G and the information is as below:

Code: Select all

GLX Renderer Rasterizer GLX Version 2.1 Mesa 7.11
I have 1 GB ATI Mobility RDEON HD 5470 Graphics Card. and Also I have enabled the Acceleration 3D Option in Vmware Player.

Also just to mention on install of All systems Like Ubuntu 11.10,OpenSUSE and Linux Mint it said to me the I cannot use Unity Feature I do not have Supported Hardware.

I too am running in VMware and having the exact same problem, but my Graphics card is an Nvidia GTX 460.

I kept trying to figure out what I did wrong.... then found this post and all was clear...

Currently trying to reinstall vmware tools and see if that makes a difference..
