I just installed linux mint lxde 12 on intel inspiron 1100. iam new to linux, so i would like to know if this is normal or not.
When i try to play a movie with vlc or even gnome media player, i can hear the sound, but there is no video. In VLC the screen is balck(you can hear the voices), in gnome media player the screen is blue.

Does anybody knows what cause the problems? do i have to install drivers or something like that?

My system is up to date, i just installed all updates available.

For display problems of any type, it will usually be a graphic issue, either drivers that don't quite work (not well supported on Linux) or hybrid graphics (same issue, not well supported..)
--mainly because the graphic chipset is too new or really only is supported by windows or Apple (sometimes) OS..

http://forums.linuxmint.com/search.php? ... ank+screen
--one post for an Asus notebook, indicated turn off accelerated video in VLC tools..

  • similar infornmation, turn off accelerated vido in vlc
--also get latest graphic card drivers for your card (usually nvidia or ati types..
--probably best to make sure you have installed nvidia-current, which is the distribution developers choice for their system (should be close to latest..)

EDIT; Thank you very much. i untick the box which says accelerate video output.
